Not happy..
Posted by Chris_in_Japan on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 7:32 PM
Hi guys. Just got up, and checked my email, and recieved an email stating that changes at the site were finished, so I go to have a look and log in, and its asking for my email and password.. Now for starters I never give my passwords to any sites, and so then placed my email in, and clicked the button to request my password.. Then I get a page telling me, that my email doesnt exist, but yet I had a fresh email from fine scale notifying me of the changes..

Now I knew about the update to the site for a while. But I was under the impression they were going to be minor.. Now I have had to set up a whole new account in order to get on?.. I am sorry to be the first to complain, but I simply have no clue as to how I am supposed to set my profile up or anything? And the fact that I cant access my old account..

When you do try to sign up, you get a page asking you to make 3 choices of becomming a subscriber?.. A little rude in my eyes to get customers.. As I thought this was a great site, because they had the free boards for everyone to use.. I know you dont have to buy anything. But whats with having to click these boxes in order to set up an account?

Chris, the password they ask for is the one for your old FSM account.  You needed that to update your profile on the "old" FSM.  If you enter the old FSM Account Password, it will unlock your old account & you can re-claim the previous username & post count.

Hi Chris,

I'm glad that you found your way back, although it sounds like we could have done a much better job in communicating the changes.

As part of the update, we moved to a new registration system.  The new system didn't know anything about your old account on the FSM forums.  The notification message you received was sent to the email address you would have registered with on the old FSM forums.

As part of the registration process, the reason why you were asked to make a choice was to select which screens to display.  If you weren't a subscriber, then we didn't need to ask for your customer number.  Same with the access code, if you weren't going to use a newsstand code, then a simpler form could be used.  The intention was to streamline, not to be rude to our customers or force them to become subscribers.

If you're partial to your old forum account (forum name and posts), I can swap out the forum accounts.  You'll just need to let me know what you're old forum name was.  If you click on the email button below, you can send me an email with the information.

If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave.. First of all, I have to appologise for my hastiness.. I had only just woken up, and although knew about the changes, hadnt studied up on them completely.. So when I was met with what I saw, then I jumped the gun a little.. For that I do appologise, and do understand it must have been a tiring excersise for you guys the last couple of days.. Last thing you need is someone like me, jumping up and down having a tantrum..

To be honest I am not all that fussed about the stars, but wanted to keep my post count.. As for my screen name, I never really liked it, and prefer "Chris_in_Japan".. What can be done about that?.. Lastly, how do I put my small sig pic back under my name?

My old user name was "AusLexusJapan"..

Cheers Chris

Yeah, I had a bit of a hard time reactivating my account too. I did keep entering my password but the system said it was wrong and when I asked for a hint it said my e-mail address was not found!

I had to go to the site by clicking on the link embedded in the email.

Anyway, I'm baack! Haha

I guess that I am just lucky.  I am fairly computer illiterate and I managed to reactivate my account by clicking on the offered boxes and giving my old screen name and password.  Have fun with the new forum.

Well now that we are on this subject.. I noticed that alot of the usual buttons are missing such as the image button.. How do we now paste our images into our posts?

In another string, someone said that we need to manually insert the html image tags.  No biggy.  Smile [:)]

I was going to say... What's the big deal. But I found I couldn't get back in either. It would appear the only way back is through the link provided in the e-mail. And even then, the text shown makes it sound like you are starting a whole new account. It's only until the end that you realize you can link back up with your old account. Not the end of the world, but you guys might have done yourselves a bit of a disservice the way you have it setup.

<p>And now it looks like I can't get a page break without putting in the tag. Hmm.

I see what it is... You have to add tags for it too format right in the preview... but it does come through right in the final post without the tags.
