I haven't been here long but the biggest disappointment in this forum is the fact I can't post my pics from my computer. I don't use third party pic hosting sites and don't care to start as I am sure before long they will all become money collectors from those who keep their pics with them. I read the other day where one of them already is but I don't remember which one it was. Good luck with your pic posts.

Though I understand and respect your position, third party hosting is a requirement of most forum-type websites.

Since the Photobucket fiasco, to which you allude, I don't post much here or anywhere anymore either. 20 years of posts gone (both mine and mostly others) will do that to a fellow's attitude in a hurry.

What a shame. FSM was a goldmine of priceless information to modelers. But all the historic posts without pictures aren't worth much now.

On a more postive and also more important note, Fox, it's really good seeing you back at it my friend.

Tickmagnet, we all wish we could post pics from our computer. The pics are here to start with and it seems that it would be really easy to just move them over from our own files. Being a computer illiterate old fart, I just don't see why it can't be done, but, I guess it's just too far over my head. Photobucket is the one that caused all the problems and I'm one of the ones that had all my pics hi-jacked. They keep trying to get me to sign up to get my pics back. I'm not about to pay to get them back. Luckily I still have a lot of them on my computer.

Greg, Thanks, I felt lost not being able to post pics. I like to show what I'm doing and just talking about it isn't enough for me. Half the fun is building and the other half is showing it to someone else.

Jim,

See GMorrison thread on Postimage in the testing Forums.  You will see my efforts to compare Google Photos to postimage in the same thread.   Google lost.

My suspicision is that the File name Google uses is too long. My pictures disappear half the time.  Gene1 has similar issues and has had to re-post most of this pictures lately.  I no longer use Google for FSM posts

Be aware that your pictures will be visable to you since you are auto-logged onto Google Photos. It is not visable to the rest of us nor is your "Signature" picture.

My test of your photo:

I got your photo from your posted link, copied it to Postimage , and am re-posting it here. So that other folks can see it now.

The file name for the above picture on Postimage is

https://s26.postimg.cc/d932i6il5/Jim_Fox_favorite_room.jpg

The wrong file Name for the Google Photo you are trying to use was:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/9HrR34Vk7ftKqFaU9

A CORRECT file name for your Google Photos looks more like this:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LbLfnk7ptJhdKHv7JkC3QZaCHnZI1aXAdJfb34dPEzJIvXQftJUbqv64oZjIjCxzImfH1cJIhvSTlQMsal0THCLw3L7Que_AciB-sz2xmJV8mrMN86T-wb7cMrbZUYyj4-lP9gWmIFH83ae3yqqAerkBpY7t6uMfxFEhsAMm39OXofmOWYpG0bfYMOQI8lHKvknVUnSSkNlYpH6Ont3amPE9rLVL7sQWKw0gfMvaYRTKOIpWctjaxvfI-aGfH8OZmlMExk6ERYP0p2XihEsb1E9QExSh_4fwTX2rRfBadAXPUyejTojq547uHRE6r-BAAceVEZw1-Aojl0L15cD0EXTm84xu69Qyc1rHO5MrQOxkp672ai0i08hcMn9oyqEOvB5ggG0_6OyRvocTPIdIC0h_WzeSYO2GGKoeq0DAvnpjzxyCSbkocyHci17pq_Dpo6k3DMvMGdvM_dqCiuSH06m-8y3MKTWxv4q2GMBj3lhtu2Hl3OF8tU4YaTvdG_oiLXXJ0PWTauPwbBtphbBi-I1C7nKyimof_MdQTbTxazHKw-BtlNNA6QqDb540UkTuY2QZv8_24qMRUq080p6URboDrGrmVLt7Bf3twbh091rdfurYb2fJa540eGhHd2r_1XlY1SUDeK8DKS59Vgl4JfGXB7FSqbZqPe8aykBk_LnB4xVHbK6Iwjs=w460-h613-no

Note that the above Google photo link/file name is Very very long.

I will try using the CORRECT google photo link here:  (sometimes this works for a day or 2, sometimes it fails right away.)

If you are clicking Share/Get link, this won't work.  Try right clicking on the picture, click on Copy Image and then go to FSM and Paste right into your post. There is an alternate method of using "View Image info" but this requires a few more steps.

Google is not the best Photo hosting site for FSM.  If you really want to use Google, PM me and I will give you some tips.  My post under GM's testing Forum/ test Postimage  has some good details too.

Well, Photobucket has seen the error of their ways. And ceased their ransom demands. At least for now. Not that I trust them any further than a proverbial “I can throw them”.  But old threads from before the drama can be viewed again. Here is one that I did  4 1/2 years ago.

Now if FSM would only fix the forums *** poor interoperability with an iPhone...

Whoa...... When did this happen? Whisper

Oddest timing in the word becuase for some reason I was trying to find some of my old posts here using photobucket for hosting, but thanks to the forum redesign, can't find squat as usual.

Maybe about 6 weeks ago or so. They started sending out emails to folks who still had accounts telling of their repentance. And since a lot of folks migrated their photos elsewhere and closed there PB accounts, there was not a lot of awareness.

Now if we can get FSM to fix all the glitches in the revamped forum... but after two years, were stuck with those until the next change comes along.

Thank you for the information, Stik.

Wonder if I maybe got the email and missed it. I'm with you, wonder how long this decision will stick.

Sure it good for the internet in general, except that so many folk go honked off and deleted all of thier posts.

And yep re the forum things we'd like to see (back).....
