Yia Sas (Hello) from Greece...
Posted by Teddz on Friday, September 19, 2014 1:17 PM

Long time reader of FSM magazine when I was living in NYC and been a guest around these parts for a while. Finally decided to become a member.

I've been building models since I was 4. The very first one was a 1/48 SR-71 Blackbird that I put together in a day with decals. All I remember of it was flying it around the house making the jet noises. Fast forward 32 years and I'm still making those jet noises and flying models around as I work on them.

After realizing I didn't like what I was doing as a 'career', I quit and moved to Greece. I was in the marketing and advertising industry (executive level in creative). The money was good, but I was miserable.

Now living in Greece, I've started a model/replica prop business. This I love doing. Always a challenge, always learning some new trick or technique to move things along. Never a dull day. Best of all, I get to use all my tools... hand tools, machine tools, drafting, modeling, sculpting, woodworking, the list goes on and on, but you get the idea.

I've been working on a kitbash of a C-17 globemaster to replicate the aircraft in Agents of SHIELD for an upcoming IPMS-Hellas event the first week of October. I'll be posting some pics of that very soon.

I look forward to being around these parts for a while.

Thanks for lookin.

Welcome Ted,

Can't wait to see those pics.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the forum Ted.   Your kit bash sound like a great idea.

Lets see you moved from self and corporate induced super stress, in an industry that creates stress just walking in the door.Located in a city that has more people than sense and is hit by summer heat and freezing winters, Just to move to a country to do what you want to do in sunshine and with blue blue waters ;

Yeah I get that- good for you

Thanks for the welcome everyone...

HAHAHA... basically yea, that's it... but there was a bit more to it than just the weather and clear blue waters. I had a full machine shop in my basement (6' engine lathe, Bridgeport mill, mig/tig welders and all the tools you could possibly need for anything from woodworking to plumbing) waiting for me. While in NYC, no tools, no space to work and had to curb any painting and fumes because of neighbors. This was just adding to the stress of it all. After work I had nothing to do to unplug from the day and calm down.

Although some of those tools don't really apply to what we do, it's good to have the flexibility to make what you need, even if it's making a tool to help you do something. Although, if ever I need an armature for a stop motion studio scale Imperial walker or AT-ST, all I have to do now is go downstairs and get crackin. :)

I'm in the process of adding a CNC Router and CNC laser cutter/engraver to my toys... both for my own projects and projects from other modelers.

Welcome to the Forums Ted! Glad to have you aboard!

At a show last Saturday (Penncon 2014 in Carlisle, Pa., there was a 1/24 street rod sitting on an all stainless steel trailer and a 1/24 drag racer on a stainless car hauler. I think he had more than the usual tools found on our workbenches.  He also had some stainless bases for other cars that looked like they were laser cut. They were all absolutely beautiful.
