Howdy from Texas
Posted by Mopar Madness on Saturday, April 25, 2015 10:37 PM
Howdy. Well, after a 20-year pause, I’m back to the hobby I love. The kids are looking at colleges, my wife is tired of me following her around the house, I have free time again, so it’s back to modelling! Wow, so many things have changed. I previously focused my efforts on 1/35 armor, but I thought something different might be nice, so on impulse, I purchased an Airfix 1/72 FW 190 A-8 from a hobby shop and I think I’ve found my new niche. In fact, I was so impressed with this little kit, I recently bought the 1/72 Do17z. Definitely not the lackluster Airfix I remember. It’s a pleasure to meet you all and I’ll see you in the forums! MM

Welcome to the Forums MM!  Glad to have you aboard!

Lots of the members on here have come the same route.  I'm just a little different.  I started building 68 years ago and never quit.  Picked up a few other hobbies along the way but kept building all the time.  I think that it's the one hobby that helped me relax in the evenings and forget the trials and problems we all go through in life.

The guys, and gals on here are very knowledgeable and are always ready to help out with any problems that you may have.  Don't be afraid to ask.  We've heard them all and will probably hear them many more times.

Sooooooooo, sit back, have a sip or two of your favorite beverage, whether it be Coffee or Beer or Drinks or Toast, and enjoy.

Welcome aboard. I know exactly what you mean about Airfix. I do have a couple of kits in the stash that I have had for ages, but in recent years I have avoided them. But when they started to release there new tooled kits, I read lots of god reviews and bought a couple two years ago, and this year there are 3 I am looking at getting, including that Do-17. They have really upped there game but at the same time kept within the range of kids coming into the hobby.

be sure to post some pics of your new builds.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Howdy back pardner  Cowboy. I moved from Texas 30 years ago to join the Coast Guard and have never been back (other than to visit family) and not necessarily my choice (the boss) if you catch my meaning Wink. She thinks there are too many tornadoes.

Yes, Airfix and even Revell has really Improved. If you have any questions, ask, and post some pics of your builds.

Now that’s what I’m talking about!  My friend, if I could have one Mopar machine, I’d have to go with Chrysler’s ugly duckling, the ‘70 Plymouth Superbird with a 426… 4-speed of course.  But, you know, I wouldn’t turn down a nice ’69 GTX 440 or perhaps a ’70 Cuda.  I grew up with the F body’s (Roadrunners, GTX…).  What’s your Mopar of choice?  Any 426 Elephants in your past?

Welcome!

Plymouth Duster 340 but I had no love for that car.

Hey yes I just picked up two of the little 1/72 Airfix A4s. They are really nice little models.

@tankerbuilder - I feel like I'm becoming a cranky old fart so you might be right! Lol

@GMorrison - Those were great affordable muscle cars. I recently saw a 1970 340 sell for $30K!

Originally from Lewisville.  Went to A&M (Yes whoop!), shifted around North Texas a bit, then finally settled in North Dallas.  Its ok, a bit congested at times, you can't go to the store for milk at 6:00 pm without hitting traffic but it'll do for now.  I like you username.  I've always wanted a fox body stang.  A simple LX 5.0 coupe would be nice.  Cool

I started out in car dealerships there at what is now the George Bush Turnpike and used to be Trinity Mills. The place used to be called Vista Ridge Pontiac and is now Classic Buick GMC. My wife and I lived in Ponder just outside of Denton. After about 3 years there we moved down here to Corpus.

As far as the LX coupe goes.....I miss the ol' girl:

She's a beauty. Pound for pound, you couldn't do much better than an LX when it came to the power to weight ratio! Very nice indeed.
