Greetings from Vancouver, Canada!
Posted by doriangrey on Monday, September 19, 2016 6:26 PM

Hello everyone!

New member from the Vancouver area up here on the beautiful west coast of Canada.

I've built quite a few military models (mostly 1/35 Tamiya kits) when I was a teenager but got out of it for about 30 years.  So here I am in my late 40's getting back into it.

I have posted a link to a recent build - I've had these model kits since I was a teenager and finally got around to building them 30 years later.

I have only done painting with brushes and spray cans but I can't stand using the spray cans and the brush results aren't always the greatest so I just bought an entry-level Badger airbrush and compressor from Canadian Tire - but I haven't figured out how to use them yet ;)

Read lots of great information on this great website and I am looking forward to learning more from everyone here and hopefully improving my skills!

Cheers!

Welcome! I'm new here too and like you, just getting back into the hobby after a 25 year hiatus. Looking forward to your builds!

Will you be dropping in at the IPMS Vancouver Fall Show on Oct 8 at the Bonsor Recreation Complex in Burnaby?  They have a great turnout every year there.  I will be driving up from Seattle to participate.

Even if you don't want to enter the competition, it is great to look at other peoples' models and go home with buckets full of inspiration.  They also have a vendor room so you can buy other peoples' kits for good proces, usually.

I just learned about the show yesterday and I would definitely really like to go but the show takes place during the Thanksgiving long weekend here and I usually go away to the interior to visit my parents for Thanksgiving. If I don't end up going away for the long weekend then I will definitely go to the show because I really would like to attend.

Thanks! The carrier was a nice easy build to get me back into the hobby rather than starting with something more difficult. Since then I've built a Tamiya Sherman and now I'm starting a Tamiya M1 Abrams =)
