Welcome to the forums, You'll have a good time here and these people will help with any questions or problems you might have.

One of the places I always wanted to go was Germany and maybe see where my family came from.

Heh, sorry guys!  I don't get much opportunity to speak German.  Here's the English version:

"Hi, BMW!  'East Bavaria'? Where's East Bavaria? Do you live near Regensburg, roughly, or near the Czech border?

Years ago, when I was a student, I lived in Munich.

I look forward to seeing your builds!"

Thanks for the translation Brad. Had 2 years of German in HS and only remember a couple of sentences the teacher used to say every day. One was just a greeting and the other was telling us that we were going to have a big written test that day. The rest went in one ear and out the other. Wink

I took German too, mostly because one side of my family is from there and the other side is from Austria.  That part of Austria is now in Italy, but at least they kept our name on our family's mountain.

What a coincidence!  One branch of my mother's family is also from the South Tyrol, from close to where Italy, Austria, and Switzerland meet.  The rest of my mother's side is Italian, from around Naples.  They call the northerners "the Austrians."  They all came over around 1900.

On my father's side, my ancestors came from the Palatinate after the end of the Seven Years War/French and Indian War.  They were farmers, and up through my great-grandparents' generation, they still spoke the dialect.  But by the time my dad was born, they didn't pass it on.
