New here, but not completely new...
Posted by Michelle on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 3:39 PM

If that isn't confusing! I've been playing around with models for years but they got put on the back burner for the last 4 years or so thanks to a divorce, moving here, moving there, getting sick, getting better, life, etc... Finally getting everything back right and trying to slowly get back at it.

While I'm slowly getting my collection back from my ex, I'm finding out he didn't care for my stash like I did and several of my kits  have plenty parts that are broken, missing, mixed up, lost, or just plain trashed. Heartbreaking, but I'll get them back right. I'm also finding out I've forgotten more than I can remember about the model hobby in general. Thanks to this, I'm hoping I don't get too aggravating with silly questions. I do try to search first, but there are times I get confused on terms to search.

Right now I have two different models I can rotate playing with, a Tamiya F16C/N and a Mpc(?) 1:1 6 scale Street Charger, but I'm having to jump around picking and choosing steps I can slightly work on due to missing /broken pieces. I'll get them done eventually, though!

Anyways... Hey, y'all from a southern Louisiana gal! Hope to get to know y'all and maybe make a couple friends here...

Welcome!  I think you'll like it here. Might even be someone who can help finding parts you're missing.

Welcome to the Forums Michelle! Glad to have you aboard!

You've come to the right place. There is no such thing as a silly question. The only silly question is the question that you don't ask. The members here are very knowledgeable in all parts of the hobby and are always ready to help out with any question/problem that you might have. You can consider all of us your friends IF you hang in there, keep building and posting photos of your builds. That's what makes us happy.

I've been building for 70 of my 76 years. I build whatever strikes my fancy at the time and my wallet says OK. I learn something new almost every day thanks to the members here. Main thing to remember is to relax and enjoy the hobby.

Welcome, glad to see another lady modeler on the forum.  Not many here but they turn out some nice builds.

Anything you need the folks here are a great bunch to pick brains with.  They have really helped my builds and are an inspiration to improve.  Of course, pics would be appreciated, either as finished product or as a work in progress.  We are a visual crowd.  Only downside to pics is you have to host them on an outside site such as photobucket, imagshak, flikr, etc.

Welcome aboard. I can sympathise with you. When i split from my now ex wife in 2003 i spent 5 years away from the hobby. Fortunatly she didn't trash my stash, but she did trash my built kits. But 9 years after getting back my stash is bigger and better than ever and thank to people on year my modelling has come along no end.

So dive in, enjoy and ask away.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Are'nt X's wonderfull ! I could fill an entire set of Encyclopidia Brittanica with all the crud I went through with my x- wife.

I built this while thinking of her.

I stopped short of covering it in blood. I took my time getting it to look like a marble slab and could'nt bring myself to covering it up.

Anyways..... Welcome! Ask away ... we love to answer questions..... sometimes I even answer them right!!!

You'll be echoing the thoughts that Mark said here in a few months. Start a build thread, post plenty of pictures and remember that the only "silly" question is the one that's never asked. You're gonna be A-OK here Michelle. Will be watchin' for a build thread with either that F-16 or that Charger of yours.

Thanks for the welcomes! I'll come back in a few minutes to do individual replies, but I do have a question I want to go post really quickly while I know I have a minute. Just wanted to give a quick thanks first...

See y'all in just a minute.

You don't need to do individual responses. They will just go to the bottom anyway. I usually just list members individually in one post.

Thanks! Luckily I am able to get the parts I need for a fairly decent price from the manufacturers/distributors I've gotten in touch with so far...

Thanks for the welcome. I understand the whole silly question, but my fear is asking redundant questions. As far as photos, I promise to soon. I don't exactly have a dedicated workplace set up yet, and time is limited, but I'll work on grabbing pics as I can, and seeing up my own thread. I do feel like I should apologize in advance, seeing some of the gorgeous work on here, my work will be no where near as nice just yet, but hopefully someday!

OH, migoodness! I didn't wanna go that far! Nice work though! Luckily, it was a decent enough divorce process, both of us are much happier now and we're able to stay friendly. He didn't mess them up on purpose, just didn't realize what everything was /how fragile it was /my system of organizing...

Thanks for the welcome!

I promise I'll start a build thread soon, but it won't be as nice as most of the work I've seen so far, not yet anyways. I'll get there eventually! For now, it'll be the F16 since planes are my main attraction as far as models go.

As far as questions, I'm more worried about redundancy than silliness.

For now, I'm in Plaquemine, but thanks to my bf working in plants, that tends to change fairly often. I'm originally from a little town in between Gonzales and Sorrento, not too far from Baton Rouge.

Thanks for the welcome!

Don't worry about how good you are there Michelle. Just post it and that'll do because you wont get nitpicked to death here. Believe me , ask for help (no matter how redundant you think it'll be) and you'll get it. My modeling skills just took tha heck OFF after I started posting my builds...........particularly in Group Builds. You'll be fine, trust me.

Michell ;

I went through the same thing almost . My late wife's children tore open every box and container looking for some Silver Dollars she left .That included dumping my models in a pile while I was at work and couldn't be there .They left Texas with Protection orders against them .

The Coins ? She Spent Them ! On What ? She bought me a New Boat ! that was the first birthday present she gave me . Boy were those kiddos Pi%^%^ed , It took almost three years since to straighten out the kit parts . you'll succeed though . Good Modeling . T.B.

I started my first build thread in the auto section... Decided to start building an engine, but I have no clue what colors the parts are supposed to be. Anyone care to offer advice? I'd really appreciate any... Michelle

Great to have you with us Michelle!  You can always ask the community for any parts that you are missing for the kits you have.  Many of us have a good collection of spares.  If you ever need aircraft advice or spares for aircraft, that is my cup of tea.  I am happy to help.

Welcome back to modeling, Michelle. Sorry to hear about the stash. My ex (seems we all have them here in the modeling world....) didn't trash my stash (I'm a poet and don't know it), but she did trash most of my built stuff, more-than-likely up against the wall. Guess I can't blame her. Probably made her feel better.

But, I am glad to see another fellow modeler here in the forums. Hope to see a lot of your work in the future.

I build mostly aircraft (1/48 & 1/32, as my eyes aren't that great anymore). What's your main interest, model-wise?
