Hi from Milwaukee, WI
Posted by BillG56 on Friday, April 26, 2019 12:10 AM

I'm getting into some serious modelling for the first time.  By serious, I mean the proper finishing methods (which to me are rather daunting).  I have built many WWII German armor pcs. a few years ago but just sort of mass produced them, hand painting everything without regard to weathering, masking, etc.  I'm determined to do a better job this time 'round.  Going to be putting together WWII aircraft to start.

Please bear with me as I will have many questions (and not many answers) in the near future.

The world got even smaller. And I was born, raised, and continue to live in Franklin.

Hey there Bill! From one Cheesehead to another, I say WELCOME! I'm way up nort in Green Bay. My brother-in-law and I took a trip down to Milwaukee to visit a couple of your hobby shops about two weeks ago. We first stopped off at Model Empire. Fantastic store!!!! Huge selection. Very well organized. Large, open and bright building. Then we went to Happy Hobby. Huge selection but everything else was the exact opposite of the first store. LOL! Dark, dank, piles of models everywhere, but if you have the time and patience to go through the piles and stacks of models, you'll find tons of gems in there! I love both stores and can't wait to visit your neck of the woods again. Eric

Model Empire is awesome. Another good hobby store is Hiawatha Hobbies. They are located in Waukesha. They stock stuff for a good mix of hobbies. It’s on the side of being tightly packed, and dim. Worth the stop though.

I'm actually in Greenfield, a suburb of Milwaukee.  I put Milwaukee in my profile cuz I didn't think most folks would know would have heard of Greenfield.

I agree, nice to know there are some other locals around.  WI is a great and lovely state to live in.  I too have been to Model Empire quite a few times.  Very nice place run by very nice people.  When I was last there and speaking with the owner, he told me he has customers who come up from Chicago as many of the shops there have closed.  It's a shame that a couple of other local shops have recently (within the last 2-3 years) closed.

I went to Milwaukee once for a week on business. Very nice city. I didn't go to a hobby store, but I did find a great used bookstore and bought a couple of books about the Milwaukee Road, Route of the Hiawathas.

That is cool, Bill. You might enjoy Hiawatha Hobbies if you ever come back. Lots of train stuff.

Jeez, I lived in Greenfield for a few years. As it is, Geenfield is a short jaunt to Franklin. I live near Whitnall Park, the western side of it. As was already said, small world.

It would be my pleasure. I'm sure downtown doesn't look like that photo anymore.

I kind of forget the building I was working on, but it was a combination office and retail thing, a highrise.

EDIT: Milwaukee Center.

Sadly, no.

Interesting work that you do. I think I would like doing that.
