Hello from St. Paul
Hi Everyone:
James Mason (Jim), 56 from St. Paul MN. I started building models in my teens when I belonged to the "Model of the Month" club from one of the companies. Back then I usually built planes, WWII mostly, however a recent article in the magazine about Frankenstein builds reminded me of one I made. It was a 1/72 F-16 with huge underwing cannon nacelles from a 1/48 Stuka. It did not look as stupid as you might think - more like a Star-Wars kind of vibe really. I remember for that one I also painted the canopy black on the inside which solved the cockpit detail issue nicely and made it look very futuristic.
I picked up the hobby again about 18 months ago when my 2nd wife got me a Tiger model from "World of Tanks" (which is another hobby...and now I build armor) for Christmas. That was when I knew she was a keeper!!! I've built a handful of models since then, a KV-1B (see below) that went through several paint jobs before I decided enough was enough. I dirtied it up with a wash that was a little too dirty...every one of these is a learning experience. I'm finding the magazine is a great help.
Right now I am almost finished with an ISU-152 - I'm waiting on some decals from Archer that will probably make it my best one so far (knock on styrene). After that comes another World of Tanks Panther from Italieri. They are having a sale...got this nice 1/35 Italieri for $22! My plan is to make it a captured vehicle with somewhat crude Soviet markings over the other ones (that may or may not be partially visible...time will tell).
I look forward to participating in this forum. I have been directed here on occasion when googling stuff, so decided I might as well join.
