A reintroduction
Posted by Tim Kidwell on Thursday, September 10, 2020 3:41 PM

Hi all,

You've probably seen me post here and there on the Forum during the last month or so. I thought it time I bop in and properly say hi.

I started with Kalmbach in 2006 and joined the FineScale team the first time in 2011 as an associate editor. In 2015, I was named editor-in-chief of Drone360 magazine and ran that until 2018 when it was folded into Discover magazine. At the same time, I was the business manager for Rather Dashing Games (another Kalmbach property), which was sold to Catalyst Game Labs (the publishers of Battletech and Shadowrun), also in 2018.

For 2018 and a chunk of 2019, I took some time to with my wife and kids, wrote and published short stories, finished my third novel, and did some freelancing for Damaged magazine and Atlas Games. In April 2019, I returned to Kalmbach and took over as editor of Scale Auto magazine.

As you all know by now, Kalmbach decided to cease the print publication of Scale Auto with the October 2020 issue and more fully fold car and motorcylce content into FineScale Modeler, making it a truly omnibus title. So, I'm back working on FSM as the lead for digital content and growth strategies and working on a pile of new content with Aaron and Elizabeth.

That's my CV. Of course, you'll want to know what I'm working on now: At the moment, I'm finally finishing (thanks in no small part to the encouragement of Chuck Davis and Aaron Skinner) the Bluenose on my bench, which has been too often set aside for other projects, and just ordered a bunch of foam for a helmet I'm making for my daughter's Halloween costume. She's going as The Mandalorian. I can't tell you more than that because spoilers.

Thanks, and it's good to be back.

Tim

This sounds like positive news for the magazine and for this forum as well, as it is indicative of things moving forward for everyone.

Welcome Sign back, indeed, Tim
