Good morning from Big Sky Country
Posted by BigskyMark on Sunday, October 18, 2020 10:56 AM

Hello all,  I just joined the community.  I grew up on the prairie decades ago building Aurora, Revell and Monogram planes and a few cars as well.  I'm old enough to remember the slot car boom (and bust) and loved building and racing those cars as well.  After decades away from any sort of modeling, I returned to scratch building slot cars about ten years ago and started building static model airplane kits 2 months ago; my goal is to complete the Aurora WWI warbirds collection--I had 5 or 6 of these as a grade schooler.. each purchased with my allowance money at the local drug store.   I've acquired 16 vintage kits and am having a blast reliving my childhood.. this time knowing just a little more about painting, gluing and decal application.   Nothing complicated about these kits (except the darn wing spars are a bit flimsy and fiddly for an old man like me), and I'm loving it.  6 kits done so far..Fokker DVIII, Fokker DRI, SE5a, Fokker DVII, Sopwith Camel and the SPAD XIII.   I hope to have the remaining ten done by Christmas.  Of course I'm going to need a new display cabinet as the book case is full!    Cheers,    Mark H.   Helena, MT

Welcome aboard. Planes are my favorite subject, but I find I will build nearly anything. Looking forward to seeing your work.

Well, Welcome Aboard.

My favorite Aurora Plane was the F.W.190 or " ButcherBird", As a kit it was always molded in black and just was Mean looking!

Welcome to FSM Forums!

Your friend's, Toshi & Ezra

P.S. I've been a WWII aircraft model builder for the last couple of years now.  I think I joined this forum in between (2013- 2014), this is the best forum members that constitue true friends.

As for Bi-Planes, I've never built one except the old Wright brothers first ever powered lighter than air (Plane). That was sometime ago!  Lol!

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you with us.

Still have a half dozen of the 1/24 clear bodies in a cigar box.

Du-Bro Lotus 38, Russ-kit Maser V-12 F1, Unknown F1, and 3 different Chapparels. Had planned to build scratch frames and engines for them but never got around to them. Planned a lot of builds in the past 74 years that never happened.Wink

Welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forum, Mark!  I look forward to seeing those Aurora builds when you've finished.  I've got a soft spot in my heart for some of the other Aurora airplane kits, like the F4B-4 and the SBC.

Best regards,

Brad

Welcome Mark. I have no doubt that you will enjoy the forums. Lots of good people here and friendly advice. I too love the old Aurora kits. I have a couple of unbuilt ones in my collection and a number of completed ones that I obtained from a deceased estate. I like to display them because of their age and the fact that they were somone elses pride and joy and deserve to be on display. My favourite is the DH10.
