Welcome from Ramona CA!  I did the X1 earlier this year.  Great little kit with low parts count.  Very timely as well with the departure of Yeager.

Thanks,

John

Welcome to the forum, Jesse!  Feel free to share your work in model rockets and figures here, too.

Best regards,

Welcome aboard Jesse. Former CA/LA type here. Depending upon what part of LA you live in, there are several model clubs in the area. Orange County IPMS meets just off the 91 and Valley View ave, literally a stone throwing distance from the LA County line. We had lots of members who live somewhere in LA County. There is also another club in the Pasadena area.

Hopefully you’ll be sharing your work here with us soon!

Welcome to the board Jesse!

When the pandemic dust settles some day (hopefully in 2021, more likely 2022?), I highly recommend attending local model shows/ contests such as ValleyCon (usually in Pasadena in March), OrangeCon (an IPMS meet in the fall), Ventura Modelfest (at Camarillo Air Museum in late Feb). Contests/ shows are great places to see what others are doing in the hobby and learn about kits, tools, paints, techniques. Fellow modelers are generally very friendly and willing to share info/ tips. Unfortunately L.A. is somewhat sparse in the area of model clubs/ IPMS chapters. The IPMS Nationals meet is scheduled for Las Vegas in early August 2021 which I highly recommend. I got to attend the Nationals in Chattanooga in 2019 and it was a fantastic event. The IPMS Workd meet in Telford, Uk is even better if you are anywhere near there in early Nov.

Looking forward to seeing some of your builds posted here.

Welcome from Carmel CA!

I share your interest in bigger scale models as I like to super detail.

The Snowberry sounds like a great fit for your interest.

Hello from Los Angeles

Hello from Los Angeles, CA,

Pretty new to modeling but with some experience in other crafty hobbies such as model rocketry and paitning miniatures for board games. So far i've built two model kits. First the Revell 1:144 VIIC/41 u-boat just to get a feel for things then i dove straight into the Revell 1:72 VIIC u-boat with a detail upgrade kit. I just finished the VIIC other than the attack periscope that I broke (waiting on a 3d printed replacement).

Now i'm looking into lining up my next few projects. Going to do the Eduard 1:48 Bell X-1, Revell Apollo 11 command module, and thinking about a sailing ship but can't decide on a good starting kit. Also considering the Revell 1:72 Flower class corvette as a companion to the VIIC.

Right now I only have acrylic paints because that's what I had from miniature painting but looking to try out other mediums. Don't think i'll be able to get an air brush anytime soon due to space limitations in my apartment.

Looking forward to learning tips from the friendly experts on these forums.

-Jesse
