PLASTIC
Posted by Brock on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 4:10 AM

Hello! My 1st post. I began building models in the early 70s. I was a kid & it seemed that all boys built model cars in those days. Some also preferred to study demolition preferably with firecrackers. I would collect their leftover parts. My interest was & is in hotrodding musclecars. So, at an early age I began to modify my model kits to fit my vision. It was inocent enough at first. I would use different tires, wheels & engines. Then came modified body work. The plastic in those days was perfect for adding JBWeld & filing to the desired shape - except for Jo-Han. Jo-Han's plastic was too slick. Now everybody's plastic is too slick. What & why did that change?

I began making what for me would be the perfect 69 Dodge Daytona back in the early 80s. This might allude to the type of modification that interests me & has me frustrated with more modern plastics.

Welcome to the forum!

Why did plastic change from what it was in the 70s?  No idea, probably a dozen different reasons, all perhaps not immediately or obviously related to each other.  Good question to post down in the Ready Room forum.

I look forward to seeing your builds.  A couple of the guys in our club build those classic Jo-Han kits, usually kitbashing them into customs, and it's always cool to see what someone can come up with.

Best regards,

Brad
