Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!
Posted by RichardMahogany on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 12:12 PM

Greetings all, Name is Rich from Central FL. I'm 42 y/o, married father of 3, full time paramedic and collector of hobbies. I love cooking, gardening and houseplant collector, currently teaching myself video editing and motion graphics and have recently decided to start scale modeling again after being out of the hobby for over 20 years, and introducing my kids as well. Now that I'm an adult I can plan and afford all the sweet kits that were out of my reach as an adolescent, and can get ahold of some sweet gear. My wife has no idea the can of worms that has been opened. I've got plenty of questions on hand and Im sure the active members will start seeing them in the appropriate pages, and I look forward meeting and learnign from everyone.

Hi Rich! Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you with us.

You have come to the right place. The members here are very knowledgeable and ready to help with any questions/problems. We've all been there at one point so we know where you're coming from. You're going to get a lot of different answers to your questions. They are all what is good for the member who answered the question. Listen to all of them and then you can pick the reply that you feel is right for you. I don't think I have ever heard a bad answer since I've been here. Example:- one uses one type of paint, someone else uses another. One uses a particular type of sprue cutter, someone else uses another. Take your pick.

I've been building since 1946 (6 years old). You name it and I've probably built it. WWI & WWII planes are 1st on my list followed bySailing Ships as you can see from my avatar. Then comes everything else if it strikes my fancy and my wallet says OK. I enter contests once in a while and have won a few but I always come out ahead because I have met new friends and learned a lot from them. I also restore models for a WWII museum.

Well, have a few sips of your favorite beverage, sit back, relax and build away. OH, almost forgot, post pics of your builds or post WIP's (Works In Progress). That really makes the members happy.

Welcome to the forum Rich!  You'll find the greatest group of modelers here who'll stop everything to lend a hand or answer a question.  There are some real good modelers from Florida on youtube if you go that direction.  I was an E.M.T. in my younger years so I'd like to say "Thank you" for what you do to help people, especially during this pandemic.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone, I'm certain to be sharing all my progress as I start up, as well as my kid's creations. Still collecting all the hardware, but there are already 4 kits under the Christmas Tree,

Academy A-10A 1:72, An A-10 was the first model aircraft I ever built, likely a Revell or Monogram kit.

Academy F-16A 1:72

Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mkia 1:72

Airfix 1:72 North American P-51D Mustang

Welcome back, Kotter!

beware the 'collection' side of the hobby!  Lol

lots of good content, here AND elsewhere!  Get yourself listening to the various podcasts, and I highly recommend starting with the Plastic Posse Podcast, and The Model Geeks Podcast!  But, all 8 plushave their place!

also, if you're on the facebook, for A LOT or really great support and thoughtful critique, find the SMCG!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the forums and the insanity of building (gotta love missing parts and so on).  I've been building since 1956 and wish I had some of those kits from back them.  Not all, just certain ones.

You've come to the right place for information, inspiration, spare parts, or what yoiu might need.  Just ask and someone should be able to help.

Where are youi in Florida?
