Greetings from Oshkosh, WI and welcome back to the hobby!  You'll find the best advice and assistance from the modelers on this forum.  May I suggest that if you can, try to attend the Region #5 Model Contest in Madison this coming March 2022 and the Modeling Phanatics contest in Eagle River in May 2022.  Great models for inspiration/motivation and you can't beat the deals at the vendors.

Hi Lurch! Welcome to the Forums and welcome back to the hobby.

Used to race R/C cars, planes and boats back in the '70s. Boats were electric scale and sailboats. Raced the sailboats up and down the east coast. Lots of fun but got too expensive.  When flying planes, they flew great but many didn't survive the landings.Wink That's when I switched to sailboats. Never lost one.

Lots of great people here. You need help, just ask.

Thanks for the warm welcome from everyone. I started doing rc when i was on an aircraft carrier in the mid 80,s. I still have 2 of the 3 originals that I started with. I have a pretty good collection now my wife thinks I am just a big OLD kid now. but thats ok atleast I have lots of fun. Have 4 grandkids with another one on the way due in Feb. I still enjoy doing static models of all types of subjects and plan on doing some diaramiams and learning to doing scratch building.I have been reading mags on modeling for many years and have learned many things from them.

Have you tried RC Helos?  I have a couple including a TREX 450 and it scares the heck out of me but they are fun and invigerating to fly and full 3D capable.  I turned it upside down once or twice.  I still have a few planes - gas and electric and a few toyish RC cars.

Are you looking at power boats?  Had a friend that built RC hydroplanes but man you need some room and flat water to run those.

Thanks,

John

I was given a couple of planes last year. I havent tried them yet. I would like to get a float plane . I just havent had time to do anything lately. Perhaps this summer I will get things going. I wont to get a couple of boats but havent found any that I like. I january I will be out of commishion for a couple of months. I recently found out that I have prostate cancer and have to have surgery so will be laid up for a while from that. Maybe get some small things done then.

So sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis and I wish you the best.  I recently had a procedure done and I'm waiting for the results of the biopsy.  Hope that you have a Merry Christmas and my thoughts and prayers go with you.
