Greetings from MS
Posted by NitroX on Thursday, January 27, 2022 1:31 PM

Hi everyone,

My name is Stephen, and wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am a retired System Administrator and figured if I want to take on this hobby, I better do it now while I can still see what I'm doing. Geeked

Hope to soak up as much knowledge as I can here to learn new painting techniques, weathering\distressing and any other skills I can, and....maybe make a few friends along the way. Its been 40+ years since I put together a model, and a LOT has changed since then, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

I will be using mainly acrylics, and occasionly may use enamels\laquers also. Will depend on the need. I have mostly Vallejo MC and MA paint as well as some Tamiya and old schools Testors enamel. I enjoyed brushing mainly, but I also have an Iwata Eclipse HP CS airbrush I will use as well. Want to "step up my game" so to speak.

Some of my hobbies include RC Cars\Trucks. Flew RC planes earlier on, but I stick to 4 wheels now. Am also an Amateur "ham" Radio operator (close to 35 years), and I'm an avid PC gamer. So I have a lot to keep me busy in my retirement years.

See yall...

Hi Stephen,

Welcome! I, too, am an avid hobbyist, though R/C has dropped from my active roster. But I console game off and on (Hades is my main jam right now), regularly tabletop game, and, of course, build scale models. Lots to do.

Thanks for joining us and I look forward to seeing your models.

Welcome.  I too do RC, though not currently doing much as my hobby focus shifts but I have 4 or 5 gas planes, a couple electrics and a few helicopters (the TREX 450 scares me lol).  Used to race RC10s way back.  Haven't done much gaming but was big into CounterStrike for a long while.

Look forward to your builds.

Thanks,

John

Welcome.  We share some hobbies.  RC cars and helicopters (the collective pitch kind, not drones).  I'm a terrible pilot.  Also enjoy ham radio, both analog and digital; haven't been at that for very long.  KC3NEJ.

Model building is #1 (along with Microsoft Flight Simulator)

This forum is a great place.  Lots of support, no matter what you need help with.  You'll like it here.

I never got the hang of the controllers, so I stuck to the PC. My go to were the Battlefield Series 2, 3, and 4, and also been playing World of Warcraft for about 15 years now.

@ dlh @keavdog

I am an Extra class and my call is NS5B. QRZ.com has an old picture of my station and antenna. I still get on from time to time, but its mostly digital now. Have another hobby now that needs some attention. Big Smile

Welcome to the Forums Stephen! Glad to have you aboard.

You've come to the right place. Lots of members got here the same way. I started in 1946 (6 years old) building models and never stopped. I added quite a few other hobbies along the way including RC planes, cars and boats. I could fly ok but always had trouble landing.Wink So, I switched to cars. Did ok there but ran out of places to race. Switched to sailboats. Raced for years up and down the east coast and had loads of fun. Did a few years of 1/1 drag racing at Atco Dragway in the '60's but learned the hard way that you can't race the car you use to get to work every day. Through it all, I kept building models too. Favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships.

Have questions or problems? Just ask. That's what we're here for.

Hi Stephen:

TankerBuilder is my name here. I build R/C and static ship models and right now I have four Tankers on the back Bench. Scratchbuilt. Could be R/Cd but not allowed to use the park lakes here. So static rules. I usd to fly but now only do Free-Flight Rubber power in the park. Still fun though! Welcome and glad to have you!
