I served 20 and a half years in the Air Force. I worked in weapons in the beginning, but after 6 years I cross trained over to working first on B-52 G and H models as a Flying Crew Chief, we go with the plane and we fix whatever breaks to keep the plane going on what ever mission it was assigned. Then , after that Base was closed, I went to working on C-5 Cargo planes. I was a flying Crew Chief on the C-5s as well. The C5s at Travis AFB were the A, B and C models. They of course now have the M model. I saw a C-5 model done by Matthew Easton. Which first of all thank you for your service. I spent my last 6 years traveling the world on them and would do it all over again if they'd let me. A lot of plane to fix, but worth it. I enjoyed my 20 plus years. Still remeber all of my tail numbers. While in I also got my pilots license and my A&P license as well. Loved it all, but now I am disabled and can't do those things any longer, busted down to building models and dreaming of the times I had it good.

Still wouldn't have traded it for anything!

Hi LedSled55,

Thank you for your service, and welcome to the FSM Forum. Lots of model topics to choose from; does your interest lie mainly in aircraft (perhaps that you served on), or maybe custom cars?

Glad to have you here!

LedSled, First, thank you for your years of service to our country.  It's great to hear from someone who worked in a career as long as you did and loved what they did!  I think that you'll enjoy this forum because there are some world class modelers here who will do anything to help another modeler out.  I would also suggest listening to one of the various modeling podcasts that are available out there.  They're informative and great to listen to while working at your modeling workbench.  Finally, I really like the name that you selected for this forum, it brings images of lowrider Mercuries cruising up and down the main drag to my mind.

Welcome aboard!  Always liked the C5 since I got to go aboard one as a boy at an open  house at McClellan AFB back in the 70s.

Thanks,

John

LedSled, thank you for your service. Welcome to the Forums. Glad to have you aboard.

Started building models in 1946 (6 years old) and never stopped. My favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships. Still learning new things from the members here.

Stay Safe.

PS - Used to drag race in the early '60's and ran against a few great led sleds. Did you own one?
