Thanks, Dodgy! With this "new world" including 3-d printing, I have a HS friend who has one, and has expressed interest in helping...!!! :)

Wow! 3D printing! I'm still trying to come to terms with all the new paints and techniques! Good luck mate!

Welcome back Nick, I'm in a similar situation and you'll find there's a lot to catch up on. Lots of help and friendship here to ease the journey.

Brad, aka "Mr. Baron" LOL!
Many thanks for your assistance. As you saw in my Yorktown thread, I was a bit uncomfortable here. I’m happy to say, that has abated (with your assistance!) I can post pics, and I have "graduated" beyond having every post in "moderator limbo…"
In high school I made a generic "in-port diorama" around that ESCI kit. Thin wire railroad tracks, balsa stock boxcars, and cardstock buildings.
As far as space—Post-divorce, I live alone in a 2,400 sq ft home. While largely now "junked up" with books, car parts, etc., there is a traditional buffet, presently occupied by a few family photos, and "junk." I propose to build a big Plexiglas box. To house the (eventual) CV-5 in front, and the big Revell Thermopylae, which was my previous “bite off more than I can chew” purchase… Where to put smaller models is more my problem, LOL!!!

Nice!

Yeah, I saw your thread for your 1/200th Yorktown, that's nuts! Big Smile  I don't have the room to display a 1/200 scale ship, even if I ever finished one.

That one is the Revell/ESCI/Casadio "wargame"-scale kit.  It's still available on the market now, boxed as each of the Yorktowns at various times, with 16 B-25s for the Hornet and Doolittle's raiders.

I have a stash of 1/1200 kits for quick builds for fun, but I also have the Yorktowns in 1/700 from the "Waterline series" of the Japanese companies.  I like 1/700 because I can display the finished models more easily, and I can still put some nice details into them.

I look forward to seeing your progress on that project!

Best regards,

Brad

Dug a little deeper, and apparently Google Photos only shares with individuals. So, per recommendations, I created a postimage account. Trying again…

Excellent, Nick!  I can click and see your pictures just fine!

If I may offer a tip about sharing pics out of Postimage, when you click to share, and get a little window with different links you could use, I suggest using "Hotlink for forums" selection.

Then you can paste that link into a post in any forum, and that forum should return the image and show it in your post.

Here's an example, using "Hotlink for forums":

(that's a 1/1200 USS Yorktown (CV-5) in her original livery, by the way)

I look forward to seeing more of your builds now!

Best regards,

Brad

Welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forum, Nick!

Yeah, unfortunately, I can't see your photos, either.  If I click the links in your most recent post, the browser takes me to Google but throws off error 404, which is "page not found".  The browser can't understand the link, so it can't open the page successfully.

If you have a look in the Technical Assistance forum:

https://cs.finescale.com/fsm/feedback_help_and_testing/f/22.aspx

you'll find a lot of suggestions on posting photos in the forum.

I use the host site Postimage, so I can't really help you with Google.

But I look forward to seeing your builds!

Best regards,

Brad

Kinda expected that... They are on a V8Buick forum, and the links are, I guess, not "public..." I guess I may need to be "less of a Luddite" to post photos here...

Welcome back to the hobby GS45570!

I retired two years ago and have started back in modeling more or less full time now.  This is an excellent site for getting your questions answered or when you're seeking advice.  I also like to revisit the models from my youth, the late sixties to mid seventies, until girls, cars, sports, and a job intervened.  My favorites from back then are the Revell, Monogram, and Aurora kits.  Thank goodness that Atlantis is bringing some of these kits back into production.

Hi Folks
Recently retired, and getting back into modelling. I built tons when I lived at home through college, but have been mostly “armchair” since. I do have a closet full of unbuilt kits (I occasionally left the “armchair…” LOL!) and a few years ago I discovered the Old Model Kits site. I’m mostly into building those “vintage” kits from my youth. “Starting small,” my first new build I’m about to start is the “cute” Aurora 1/156th B-17, with a smidge of scale-appropriate “super-detailing…”
Mostly interested in WWII-era ships and planes, but some cars too. Last finished model was a 1968 Buick GS 400 in 2008

1968 GS 400

1968 GS 400 under hood

1968 GS 400 interior
