Looking for building buddies

Anyone here in North Central Texas? Where and who are you. I'm really interested in connecting with like minded any age local modeler/s. Idea is to set up a space here or there to build models together.

im 51 and been building models for years but have been out of the hobby for many many years. Long enough to forget how and being amazed at what available today. Last model I started was a B-25 back when the B-26 pro modeler was released.

anyways I am seeking to make friends and modeling companions with my spouses good graces. This is purely on a superficial friendship level only if you thinking I'm saying something different.

wife and I are recently empty nesters and I'm wanting to get back into the hobby.
I have or had four hobbies in my life. 1-model planes, 2-electronics , 3- old cars, 4-guns.
I like to share my hobbies with others as much as I can but like building models the others took a back seat to life but did not stop me from obtaining kits and materials.

oh! ps. Hello from somewhere in north east wise county Texas.

Carrollton here. Also, there is an active IPMS chapter (IPMS North Central Texas) that meets monthly except December in Irving. There are two other IPMS members in Carrollton as well.

Northeast Wise County? My mom's family was from the Greenwood area.

IPMS NCT wont be meeting in  Irving starting in January.   Irving Parks & Rec wants too much for the room.  Beginning in January will be meeting at the Grapevine GRACE center.  Second Sunday of the month. Gather at 100, call to order at 130

Welcome aboard PJ! There's A LOT of good things that's happened in the hobby over the years with one of the biggest impacts being 3-D printing. Pretty much anything is possible nowadays. Glad to have you on board.

BTW....I'm originally from up around Bowie but am now in Corpus Christi.

Carrolton eh? I worked at what was then Vista Ridge Pontiac, Buick, GMC as an automotive technician back in 96-99 located at what was then Trinity Mills and is now the George W. Bush Turnpike. Sheesh, Squadron was practically right around the corner and Phil's Hobbies was Valwood.

Not sure I ever mentioned it, but I grew up in S.A.  Used to shop at Dibbles occasionally, but got most of my model stuff from the Michaels (that is no longer) in Castle Hills.  Haven't been through New Braunfels in a while, but would like to get the kids down that way to Schlitterbahn...  Big Smile

Irving nd Benbrook are both a long drive. I was hoping for a small satellite group closer , like Denton , Gainesville , Or even Wichita Falls.

my work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday but at this moment I have a three month contract requiring Monday through Friday.

who meets where when?....... Benbrook is Monday evening and by the time I would get home it would be real late for me as I go to bed at 8 and get up at 4am. Makes Benbrook a no go.

when, where will the Irving bunch meet?

Being in grapevine and mid day on a Sunday I may just show up. The wife and I , I'll let her know to put it on the calendar.

i am as I speak unpacking all my modeling supplies and tools to see what's been lost and what I still have. Yes , 2008-2010 I was trying to get started again. I have moved twice and become self employed ,also had CPS deliver my nephews to us in the middle of the night one night. They were 5 and 8 very unruly so all my models, guns and all the related things were packed up and put back in storage.

one thing after another and a couple moves later and now the nephews being reunited with their bio mom we are empty nesters and that bedroom is now my hobby area. Guns, models and all the related things are coming out of storage.

I started the Revelle/monograham A-10 back then, it is now on my new to me desk/work bench. i cant wait to get back to it. I started it as just a build and finish model. What I mean is, i cant remember the last model I finished building. I would always get stalled afte the fuselage and wings were on then parts get lost to the point I couldn't finish it. All that interior detail waisted.

I am more concerned about finishing the model it's self than the quality of the build if that makes since. That means oob build and no special details. This will be like a child's first build So be easy on me.

I can wait for my wife and I to meet some of you.

p.s.

I drive/deliver for a living and as a result work a lot of hours so my spare time is very limited, but as a result allows me the occasional opportunity.
if you look at the hobby shop directory in FSM you will see a hobby shop in Owasso , Ok..

I had the opportunity to get by there this last Wednesday and it is a wonderful place somewhat like I remember the hobby shop in Bedford was like So if any of you find yourself in or near Tulsa Oklahoma please take the short drive up to Owasso and patronize  his shop. The proprieter is a very nice and informative man and fellow model builder.

i hope to visit again and this time talk model building rather than being in a hurry to get in and out. I was pressed for time when I stopped Wednesday.

p.s. to the p.s.

it's Saturday and raining. Wife and I were going to spend the day at the gun range "private members only" in Bowie but with the rain it's a no go. Soooooooo, my hobby room door is open and the room is warming up. I'm going to get to that A-10 some today.

My life has kept me so very busy.
im interested in 3D printing, I see on eBay 3D printed radials for 1/48 and 1/32. At what they are asking and as many as I need versus using kit motors I thought about buying a 3D printer. The cost of supplies and setting up had me reverse that notion.

why in the world would you want to move closer to the boarder?

Update: IPMS will no longer be meeting at the GRACE Center in Grapevine. Our March meeting will be at HobbyTown in Lewisville. Same hours. But that's when Daylight Saving Time starts, so be sure to set your clocks ahead 1 hour the night before.
