Looking forward to reading the posts. I have been modeling since 1958. I started with funny cars and slingshots. No airbrush back then. I went on to build scale wood sailing ships average size about 3 feet long, mostly war ships and fishing sloops. I did a lot of minute details on the ships like making my own rope with scale rope making machine i made myself and handmade blocks. I'm now going back to scale plastic models. I'm interested in WW2 tanks now. As a former pilot I have a great interest in WW2 combat aircraft as well. I have an intense interest in the war WW2 primarily because my uncles were in the war one became a POW he was captured and taken to a POW camp in China. While he was living, he told me many stories of his life prior to and during the war. My objective is to learn as much as I can to make my models look as they would have traversing the countryside during or after battle.
Hi John! Welcome to the Forums!
My favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships. But, I build anything that strikes my fancy at the time and my wallet says OK.
Had 2 uncles in WWII. One was in the merchant marines and the other was in a Gato class submarine. They got me started building models in 1946 (6 years old). Been building ever since.
You've come to the right place. The members here are very knowledgeable and ready to help with questions/problems. They have helped me out with quite a few questions over the years. Don't be afraid to ask. They don't bite.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Welcome aboard. My grandfather was in WWII - coastal artillery in the English army (my mom was from Liverpool). I do 70% planes and 30% cars more or less. Look forward to seeing some of your builds.
Thanks,
John
Would have enjoyed being a fly on the wall for some of those stories with your uncles. Tons of knowledgeable folks here and some outstanding builds. Ask away. Everyone is happy to help. Have fun and welcome to the forum.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
