To me, any reason to head to Chattannooga is a good one. This one is excellent.

Thanks for the heads up, Ed. Now then, who's going to remind me? Dunce

Shoot, Greg,  I'll do it!

I really have a question, though, since it's my first trip. When are you allowed to pick your models up at the conclusion of the show? Is it after the awards ceremony or is it sometime before?

They're supposed to have a display only section. Thought about going that route with my MidSouth collection.

They really can't stop you from leaving before the awards are announced.   However, in the past there has been theft of models.   Someone boxes up a model on Saturday afternoon and justs walks out like he owns it.   The real owner looks for the model after the awards only to find it misssing.   Some recent shows have had 'security' checking a model entry receipt on the way out.  I have no idea if this in the works with the Chattanooga staff.

Secondly, if you pack up and leave Saturday afternoon and win something it becomes a hassle and $$$ for all involved in getting your award to you.

The action is discouraged.   If a lot of people packed up and left Saturday at noon, then the general admission people, those one-day trippers who come to look at the models, will find the tables more empty and could be left with a bad impression

I saw that the room closed at 4pm, and I was unsure if folks were allowed back there afterwards. Noon, though, wow! That would be a drag...

I had some questions because I have never been to the IPMS convention before and I was planning to go.  I emailed Mike Moore (the contest director?) and got the response below:
________________________
Hi Ken,

Good questions! And I hope you'll end up enjoying your first National Convention.  My head was spinning like a top at my first one back in 2005!

Judging is actually done Friday night.  That's why the model room will be closed at 6pm.  The judges will spend the rest of the night in there.

On Saturday there will be signs placed on the contest tables to indicate which models won their best in class (i.e. Best Aircraft, Best Armor, etc).  The model room then closes on Saturday afternoon and the 1-2-3 awards are placed at each model.  Then that evening we'll hold a reception followed by the awards ceremony, where each model that placed will be announced and a slide show run with winning models shown.  Once the awards presentation is over, the model room is re-opened and everyone gets to go back in and pick up their models and talk to their friends, new and old!

IPMS really prefers that no one remove models from the model room until after the awards are announced.  However, they are your models, and we can't forbid you from leaving early if you have to.  We just ask that you let us know so that we can make note of the fact that you've had to leave and pick up your models early.  That way we know someone isn't stealing models and the award placement crew doesn't waste time looking for a model that isn't there anymore.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Mike

I’ve registered, but where do I get the forms for model entries?  Do they have any way to enter the info online?  Will I get entry forms there and fill them out?

They have the forms online. You have to print, complete and bring with you.

could some nice person going to the show visit the Zoukei Mura Booth, say Hello to the Old Man and take some good, clear close up photos of the Hs129's?

To whet your appetite:

I'm eagerly awaiting the Henschel too.  For me, it's gotta be the 75mm cannon version.

I have a plan for these.

I want to build two of the B2 with different armament and a seperate main gun display.

I want to build the B3 complete and another but with bombs and have the 75mm with the workings on a stand, like the B2.

I might build another one of each with the port fuselage off to display the interior with the guns mounted etc.... There's so much to see!

I can get hold of the maintenence manuals for this bird too so adding extra wiring etc should be possible.

It is amazing just what the boys are doing now and the possibilities that open up!

This year at Telford it is going to be a very expensive year, but with some fantastic stuff added to the stash. Well worth sitting on these until the extras and the metal barrels become available!

So, who's going to be there?

I have secured myself a V-tail Bonanza for the trip...3 hours of flying beats the hell out of 9+ hours of driving!!!

5-1/2 hrs in the truck for me. Lots of big 1/32 scale boxes to haul out there!

Not the US show, but I am already in planning for Telford here in the UK In November.

I usually run a military operation which involves 3 trains there and back a taxi and carrying facilities for the expected haul!

Usually my main purchasing weekend of the year. My equivalent of your Black Friday!

the final test shots of ZM's HS 129 will be there and I do want to see the plastic. The 3D print at Telford last year had me drooling and I do want to see what could be in retail boxes at Telford!

Thanks in anticipation!

I tried to, but as soon as I started taking pics, this very nice gentleman who didn't speak English started  putting the display and other pieces in my hands. He showed me the cowling, and I was shocked at how thin the plastic was. It was amazing! Here's the pics that I got

The gentleman was the boss of ZM himself. Better known as "The Old Man".

This looks like it is going to be an absolute cracker. Possibly their best yet!

Don't be put off by the apparent complexity of the kit. The instructions are superb and the fit is just out of this world! Already thinking about display options!

Telford is going to be very expensive for me this year!!

Thanks for the pictures

No worries, and you're correct about that kit. It is a gem. It's not my cup of tea, but those Phantom kits are singing their siren song!

Yes, thanks for the pics. I can now at least visit the show vicariously as I had to cancel my visit.
