Wow!  That does look good.  I think I'm going to have to see that one on the big screen when it comes out.

I'll have to watch this one when it comes out on disc.  I think I may have driven past that area every day to work and back.  I lived right outside Naha, on what they called Bloddy bRidge, so I was told.

He was assigned to the 307th Infantry Rgmt, 77th Division, and they were smack in the middle of the line for the advance on Shuri, the lynchpin of the IJA defenses.

If I read this right, I was a bit west of there on the city outskirts about where it says 3/22.  To know exactly, I should look for a map from the 80s that will show the changes since the war

307th's area was on the Eastern flank of the 77th Division, from Tanabaru in the North to Shuri in the South.

Here is a link to present day locations there

I hope Mel Gibson did not "Hollywoodize" it too much, like he did The Patriot and Braveheart.

I read his MOH citiation and he was amazing during the battle - lowering 75 wounded down the 400 cliff, treating wounded yards away for Japs, giving up his streacher to other wounded after he was hit twice.
