Am I tired . You probably won't be interested , but I'm going to tell you about my Fourth of July weekend . Have you ever heard of a product that when you have children and you hear a noise, you step on in the dark and come wide awake ? Sure you have ,They're your kids LEGOS !
Now , that said . I am an A.F.O.L. (adult fan of LEGO ) This means all the men and women and kids that like them , get together in a very informative and fun convention .Ours is called " Brick Fiesta " ! This means vendors , classes ( yes , classes ) and challenges concerning that ubiquitous brick .
Now , would you believe a Building 24 stories tall ? How about the Landing at PELEILU in the Pacific ? How about the Battle of MARNE ? in France .Yup , Tanks of the opposing sides .Reasonable scale models that are recognizeable for what they are .
There are even Vendors of special LEGO type figurines . ( well ,they Must be LEGOS , it's the main rule ) Now you have identifiable German , American , Russian and Japanese combatants .
As there are fanciers of the realms of Magic and lore , so there are those figures ,castles and horrible creatures . As well as the typical Star Wars components There are some figments of the builders imaginations and some straight OOB . I was particularly fascinated with what the children did without resulting to OOB .
Would you believe a fully equipped Pet Shop with the usual animals and fish as well as birds , you would find and indications of the associated products ? This by a seven year old ? Then there was the biggest Norman style castle I've ever seen in these bricks . A whole family built it and they won the Class .
Yes , there are competitions for everything from MANGA to MECHA and City ,etc. So you see there are many iterations of these things .I have to admit , The 24 story business and residential tower was mine .It was in the City group .I was defeated , pleasingly by the largest airport I've seen outside a LEGOLAND setting .How about a D.C.-3 with what could've had " Air America " Markings If the builder had so chosen ? Four engine jets , twins , props and civil aircraft too .
Over the battle scenes flew B.F.109 and Russian aircraft as well . There was a Captain in the U.S.A.F that brought models of planes he'd flown or worked on .Yes , friend , you could tell that was an S.B.-70 Valkyrie ! That said there was even an identifiable pair of movie cars .The two made famous in the " BULLIT " movie .Yup ! A black Dodge Charger and " Bullit's " 68 Ford Gt Mustang fastback !
I wish I could have had you with me .You would've been fascinated with the Sturmgeschutz 3 models and Panther and Tiger tanks . And plenty of recognizeable softskins too .
Well , on that after you've picked the LEGOS , or ( Mega Blocks and BrickTech- Clones ! ) up from out of the bottom of your foot .Look at them and think .They will spark that creativity that has gone missing for months maybe , and you'll get over the modelers block .Besides , you can do it with the kids , No Harm , No Foul Well , think about what I've said .I was amazed at the fact that the adults outnumbered the children .
