Build hype, yes. Indicative of final product quality, not at all. Episode I had an excellent trailer. Too bad the other 99% of it was awful.

I didn't they were all that terrible you make them out to be.

My prediction is Luke has gone over to the Dark Side... or there is a long lost brother of Darth Vader.

I can remember going to the cinema to see it. My dad was a big Sci Fi fun so it was a must see. I was 7 at the time.

I was in my mid 20's went the first one came out.  The theme song was on the pop charts, being played on AM radio.  I was too old for the toys, so I missed out on all the marketing.  I've not missed an episode since, and I will be going to this one as well.  May the force be with you.

I was 23 when the first one came out. I drug my wife and 3 year old along. The baby was entranced and has been a Sic Fi geek ever since. I remember once I went to see one episode by myself. It had been out for a couple of weeks and it was weekday I didn't expect a crowd. It ended up being me and one other person there. I think it was episode #1 because it was the only one i didn't like. Having Jar Jar Binks in it didn't help.

Now this new one I am physced for. Can't wait till next year.

Tojo -

I saw Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Yup - saw all 3 of them in theaters plus all the prequels on DVD. Got the whole Star Wars series for Christmas as well a few years back. Every now and then I'll watch it again... and again... well, you get the idea. LOL!

I saw the originals in the theater back in the day... Loved 'em all... Enjoyed the prequels, but they just seemed to lack something of the originals. Kinda ambivalent towards these ones, as I am not a JJ Abrams fanboy. I enjoyed the Star Trek reboots, but still prefer the originals there, over the liberties he took with the altered timeline. I hope he (and his Disney overlords) do not bone this up too bad. I'll see this one at least...

I must confess at first I thought this teaser was a fake ... it seems more like a bunch of really good fan-made CGI scenes than an actual true movie.

Just like a few months before Episode I, there were tons of fake teasers and trailers (some even pretty good) on the Web.

Since I'm a bit on the younger side of the FSM forum population, I was 5 when I first saw the first Star Wars movie (before they called it "Episode IV - A New Hope") at a drive-in theater.

Ah man ... Life goes wayyyy too fast ...

Oh and by the way, for those who are not sure whether in the last scene it is really the Millennium Falcon or simply a generic YT-1300 freighter, just take a look at the radar dish on top of the hull : it's now rectangular (it was round before Lando got it knocked off while doing a joy ride inside the second Death Star).

Yeah, I'm THAT KIND of a SW fan ! Stick out tongue

I saw another teaser where the dark figure lit up the light sabere and it was a double excaliber type saber. Just can't find it now on youtube.

LOL! @ JayF.

I think that one was a fan made spoof.  There have been a bunch of them pop up almost as soon as that trailer came out.  I personally like the one with the googley eyed storm trooper.

I was 8, saw it on Labor Day Weekend 1977, and if you buy the toys as an adult, you are a collector.

I was 9 and my mom took me after my birthday in 1978 to see the original after they re-released them.  I have seen all but episode 3 in the theaters, since my wife was sick in that time frame.  I remember standing in line for the re-release f the original Star Wars before the prequels came out and being next to some 6 year old kid and a cardboard cutout of Darth Vader.  The kid gets all excited and exclaims, "I know who that is!  I saw him on the news!"  Boy did I feel old!  Love the whole universe and got to see some of the production models used a few years back.  It was a lot of fun looking at the Star Destroyer and seeing parts of models I recognized used in making the model.
