Kudos to Tamiya
Posted by BarrettDuke on Friday, December 26, 2014 6:20 PM
I have been building a Tamiya 1:35 88mmFlak36 for months. It was almost done and ready for weathering when I broke a small handle while prepping it. I couldn't get it put back together right. Eventually, one piece popped out of my tweezers and got lost in my carpet. It had an unusual bend in it, and I had no success making a part from scratch. So, I called the Tamiya folks in California to see about ordering a new piece. It was going to be $4 for the tree the handle was on. I asked the gentleman to send it to me. Then, as he was taking my credit card info, I explained to him what happened. He stopped and offered to search his stock for that one little piece and send it free-of-charge if he had it. That was on Monday of this week. Today, Friday, the day after Christmas, the part arrived, carefully packed in a box. Tamiya even paid the postage. Now, that's what I call customer service! I wanted to include a picture of the piece so you can see how little it is and understand how much trouble this person went through to do this for me, but the forum apparently no longer supports that. Either that, or the embedding tool is broken and off line! Sorry, you would have been extra impressed when you saw how small the part is. Anyway. If you're looking for a brand with great customer support, I think it would be hard to do better than Tamiya. Barrett

Wow!  While I am relatively new to the hobby, I am becoming increasingly impressed with Tamiya.  Both, as a brand and as a service.  The later being something that seems to be forgot these days.  Kudos to this good company for their service...  Raymond

That's great to hear. Tamiya has been very good helping out customers for as long as I can remember. Trumpeter and Academy should take notes on improving their customer service.

I wish Trumpeter was more like Tamiya.  I sent Trumpeter's US distributor (Stevens International) an email about possibly replacing a broken part about a week ago.  Still haven't heard from them.  Maybe they are out for the holidays?  Anyways, I'll try again after the first of the year.  Has anyone one got a part replaced from Trumpeter?

I haven't had to contact Tamiya's customer service, but I love their kits.

I guess you missed my post. Yes I have tried to have Trumpeter replace a damaged part. After 6 months I gave up and bought a replacement canopy from Squadron. It's been two years since I contacted both Trumpeter and Academy about damaged parts and they never got back to me. Their suppliers kept giving me the same BS of it's in the mail. I hate to sound negative and hope you have better luck than me.

I was just hoping for a Trumpeter customer service feel good story.  Doesn't seem likely.

Airfix had some great customer service even though there was the extra turnaround time considering the ocean apart. They paid for VAT and never batted an eyelash - if you needed it it was yours. Kudos to the Brits.
