What to do with built models
Posted by tommyboa on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 7:20 PM
I have built models, mostly ETO WW II aircraft and some armor for years. Our grandsons and family have little or no interest in these items and one wonders "what do other modelers do with surplus models that are built out and of good quality?" There are several dozen aircraft suspended from the bedrooms our now grown grandsons one time occupied.I don't want to throw these items out....suggestions?

See if there is a local VFW or American Legion chapter that might be interested in taking them as donations.

Another idea is to contact a history teacher to see if they would like to enhance their presentation on world War II

Like Wolfhammer1 stated, check with your local schools. At one of my children's schools the librarian has military models all over the library. He even awards some students with a model when they reach certain milestones. I love going to their library!

eBay them, seems like there is always a market for old built up kits.

I made over $1400 selling my old 80s and 90s builds on eBay. They weren't up to the standard that I build today, but buyers just ate 'em up. The only real pain is shipping them--you have to pack them so they don't break.

Maybe try a local or nearby veterans home or hospital to see if they might want them for display and keep the vet's interest up and telling of history.

If you have a LHS in the area, ask if they would like to have them for display.

Ebay gets my old builds or anything I want to pass on. It helps fund the hobby. The only big issue here is as Doog said the damage during shipping. Extra care must be taken with the packing but there are no guarantees. Blind Fold

If there's a local museum near-by, they might want to display them.
