Erickson Aircraft Collection

I have to go to central Oregon for a meeting in the middle of March, and am planning on spending the 13th at the collection in Madras where most of it is now housed.

Supposedly the only flying example of an Oscar, an F4F, PBY, Corsair, B17G, P51, Texan, P38L, several others.

Planning on burning through a pocketful of batteries and have 2 each 4 gig chips for the camera.  Going to photo everything I can and will save to my 'puter and make available to anyone who wants it.

Search Erickson Aircraft Collection and see what he has in it.  Should be an interesting day.

Went through today.  F4U was in maint and pretty well torn down and the Spanish ME109 is in Idaho for restoration.  Got quite a few pics of everything else except a crop duster, and the Chec trainer. Got to get them loaded up in the next day or so.  Then will be available for me to email out.  Almost 500 pics total,  If you are looking for closeups of anything they might have, let me know.  Will also stop back by at the end of October when I am over there.

Then one of the crew said if you wait around for about an hour the Mustang is going flying, so got to see it take off.   No sound like the sound of a Rolls Royce  Merlin at full song.  Was going down to do a memorial flyover in Bend for someone.

List of what I have:  P39, PV2 Harpoon, Skyraider (wings folded), A26, TBM (wings folded), FW190 (replica, but built with quite a few of dies, etc), PBY5A, P2V7 Neptune (not many, outside), PT17, B25, T6, DC3, Bellanca Aircruiser ("W" wing, also a couple of pics of her floats), Grumman Duck, B17G, P38, FM2 (wings folded), P47D, SBD, Oscar, Martin Mauler

That is good news and thanks for doing that. Always useful info.

I don't know about Oscars, but there are other aircraft flying from the list you gave. It's funny but except for the Oscar and PBY, I've seen them all race at Reno.

Thats a lot of fun too.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Central Oregon eh?   I am in Salem.  Are you speaking of Bend?  Is that where it is?

Cody-  In Madras, about 50 miles North of Bend, out at the north end of the airport on Hwy 26.  Open from 9-5 Thursday through Monday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday.  $9.00 to get in, get a break on that if active duty or a vet.  Can't climb on them, but can weave your way around and under, nothing roped off.  Pics for commercial use not allowed, but otherwise fair game.  This was what was at the Blimp Hanger in Tillamook.  He moved it over there to have all his operations in the same place, and it got them out of the salt air.  Another plus is the air show every year at the end of August.

As you get into the airport two big hangers still there from the WWII days of a B17 base.

BTW, I'm down in Lebanon.
