I think ;

   If I could go back in time . I would do everything possible to acquire a low to zero hour B-25 Instead of the worn out old bird I bought  .The one I had was a heck of a lot of fun overall , For the whole family !

  Nearly ate me alive financially for a while . But those kids faces at 5,500 ft or higher made it all worth while . They liked take offs and landings best though .

   Seems the rougher the landing , the better my son Liked it . The girls didn't really care , they were flying in Dad's plane . I couldn't get three girls and a boy and Mom in the J-3 you see .

Actually from what I've read, in 1946/1947 you could buy a P51 that only had ferry time for $700 to $1000 ready to fly.  The last lot of P-51's were sold out of DM circa 1958/1959 for something like $400 each (but they had been there long enough that they needed work before they could be flown).  And I have also heard that one of the reasons you have to be certified to fly the ("typed") is that a lot of people were getting their licenses in J3s or 7ACs then buying a P-51 (which would you rather have, a J-3 Cub for 5,000 bucks new or P-51 for 1000 bucks.

My friend Richard is a college English lit teacher. A grateful student gave him a First Edition of the Iliad, paid $ 500.00 for it at a used book store.

Whoops

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I found $1 in a parking lot at work . Funny story how that came about. Got out, saw the dollar, tossed the keys in my car and closed the door. After I picked up the dollar, I realized I had already locked my car doors .... with my car keys on the seat in plain site. Not a good way to start off the morning. LOL!

Another great story is about the young lady that was graduating from College and needed reliable transportation and went to a local Ford dealership looking for a deal. She almost left without a car but at the last moment the salesman suggested showing her a car he had out back and was not supposed to display it for another 2 days. The salesman showed her the car and she bought it on the spot and picked up the car I think a couple of days later.

The date was April  1964, two days before the opening of The 1964 New York World's Fair where the 1965 Mustang was to be unveiled and guess what car she bought? Mustang Vin #1 was at the World's Fair and she purchased Vin #2 I believe!!

I forgot where I read this story but it was about a year or so ago and the lady still has the car. After many years of driving the Mustang, the car eventually got parked in the garage as a future restoration project for her husband. She said that twice she almost sold it for peanuts but her husband wanted a retirement project.

Once he retired and began to restore the Mustang he discovered the hidden jewel they have owned for so many years. Can you estimate the value of that  Pony car? The find of the century as Vin#1 is at the Ford Museum.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Yeah?...well, try this one on!

My flight instructor had an uncle that bought 2 P-51D's, for $3000-ish each, just after the war....still in the crates. As of 10-12 years ago, he still had em...in the crates, in his garage....estimated value was well over 5mil. (so is the story)
