Wasn't trying to do the whole politics thing. I was just blown away by the article, wondering if that was a misprint.

Light AAA, I imagine. DSHK,  ZU or ZPU mounts would fit the bill. Basically light cannon or heavy machine guns, depending upon the weapon type.

This whole episode reminds me of a line by Mel Brooks in "History of the World",  "... Boy, when you die at the palace, you really die at the palace..."

Dare to say that it is not new neither it is entirely their idea. Execution by cannon was fairly common practice in the old days, before airplane was invented so no AA then.

I do recall reading about the 19th Century Spanish executing by tieing someone up at the mouth of a cannon.

That would be messy indeed.... Definitely overkill when compared to more traditional methods of execution.

Maybe they didn't have any ammunition for larger caliber weapons

Not that new, a year or two ago he had his...uncle?...or some such important person and their family executed by flamethrowers. I'm not sure the DPRK can do much that would surprise me anymore, unfortunately.

Hope they gave the poor guy a blindfold... Apparently part of his crime was falling asleep during a military parade... Did sales of No-DOZ in the DPRK just go through the roof ?

Reminds me of the "Human Cannonball" at the circus who handed in his resignation.  The boss told him "You can't quit now- where would I find someone else of your caliber??

Concerning the dear, departed Defense Minister (who needs a Minister of De Fence, anyway?  ):  If I had read that he had been fed to wild dogs, I would be more surprised.  Probably all the wild dogs have been eaten in NK by now.

Perhaps they should have used him to test the new ballistic missile launch system?
