I thought the most popular current book in North Krazyland was  "101 Ways To Wok Your Dog"

Concerning the dear, departed Defense Minister (who needs a Minister of De Fence, anyway? Wink ):  If I had read that he had been fed to wild dogs, I would be more surprised.  Probably all the wild dogs have been eaten in NK by now.

Okay!  Color me MORE surprised...

So there ARE dogs still left in North Korea!  They seem to be eating better than the North Koreans themselves... wait, that doesn't sound right...

Cadet Chuck

Reminds me of the "Human Cannonball" at the circus who handed in his resignation.  The boss told him "You can't quit now- where would I find someone else of your caliper??

(Sorry- I'm just easily amused!)

I think the "b" in your caliber died.  LOL!   Toast

Perhaps they should have used him to test the new ballistic missile launch system?

Hope they gave the poor guy a blindfold... Apparently part of his crime was falling asleep during a military parade... Did sales of No-DOZ in the DPRK just go through the roof ?

Not that new, a year or two ago he had his...uncle?...or some such important person and their family executed by flamethrowers. I'm not sure the DPRK can do much that would surprise me anymore, unfortunately.

Maybe they didn't have any ammunition for larger caliber weapons Hmm

I still suspect the one who gave the orders to use the ZPU-4 likes the first Robo Cop movie.........Wink

According to this Reuters article

http://news.yahoo.com/north-korea-executes-defense-chief-treason-charges-south-005116364.html

the weapon used was a ZPU-4, a quad 14.5mm AAA mount.

That would be messy indeed.... Definitely overkill when compared to more traditional methods of execution.

Wow,that has to hurt.

I do recall reading about the 19th Century Spanish executing by tieing someone up at the mouth of a cannon.

Light AAA, I imagine. DSHK,  ZU or ZPU mounts would fit the bill. Basically light cannon or heavy machine guns, depending upon the weapon type.

This whole episode reminds me of a line by Mel Brooks in "History of the World",  "... Boy, when you die at the palace, you really die at the palace..."

Actually, it reminds me of a scene from the first " Robo Cop " movie when ED 209 executes a junior executive........Whistling

Dare to say that it is not new neither it is entirely their idea. Execution by cannon was fairly common practice in the old days, before airplane was invented so no AA then.

Nope - multiple news wires are reporting the incident and there is apparently a satelite image of the AA guns in question.

Wasn't trying to do the whole politics thing. I was just blown away by the article, wondering if that was a misprint.

North Korean Defence Minister executed by anti-aircraft fire?
Posted by Souda99 on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 9:46 PM
Ok I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that either the reporter that filed this report didn't do a spell check, or that the North Koreans have officially gone batsh@t crazy. I'm sorry no matter how I try to wrap my head around this it is wrong on so many levels. I have cut and paste the article from the AP below. North Korean Defence Minister Hyon Yong-Chol has been executed by anti-aircraft fire for disloyalty and showing disrespect to leader Kim Jong-Un, South Korea's intelligence agency said Wednesday. Hundreds of officials watched Hyon's execution on April 30, Han Ki-Beom, the deputy director of the National Intelligence Agency (NIS), told a parliamentary committee, the Yonhap news agency reported. Hyon, who was appointed to the post of Minister of the People's Armed Forces less than a year ago, was apparently caught dozing off during formal military events and also talked back to Kim Jong-Un on several occasions, Yonhap said. The Yonhap report was based on a briefing by a ruling Saenuri party lawmaker who attended the parliamentary committee meeting. Han told the committee that Hyon was executed with anti-aircraft fire -- a method cited in various unconfirmed reports as being reserved for senior officials who the leadership wishes to make examples of. In North Korea, the defence minister is mainly in charge of logistics and international exchanges. Policy-making is handled by the powerful National Defence Commission and the party Central Military Commission.
