GM - Fiona looks very much like Lucy, had we gotten her as a puppy we'd have named her Pearl. Her nose was a pinkish color, just like the eraser. Built like her as well, a bit squarish and chunky, but I could not walk her far or long enough to make her want to slow down. We're one block from a 100+ acre field, trails that we have established over the years are well traveled by us, pheasant, deer, fox and other critters abound, her nose was constantly down and searching, real doggie Heaven, (mine to.)

I hope you have Fiona for many years and that she enjoys the best of health, you too.

What bunch of great looking dogs and better yet, stories!  My wife just gets teared up even thinking of loosing one of our dogs....frankly dont know what I would do when the time comes.  She is very attached to our Beagle.

My 14 year old yellow female Mimi and my 15 year old black female Kelly both went to the Rainbow Bridge last summer, within a month of each other. They got so old that I was using a sling to move them around, and we had to temporarily part ways.

But we are blessed to be adopted by Fiona, a 7 year old yellow, just a little bit ago.

It's become a bit of a family joke, but she must have had a male owner, (she did, he passed away and his kids gave her back to the original breeder, who I know) because she follows me everywhere. She won't go on walks without me, and spends her time at the door when I'm out.

We lost our labs in '12 and '14, Maggie, black Lab age 16 just got old, Lucy, yellow Lab age 12, cancer. Both rescued from abusive homes. Newest one is Ellie, 3.5 years, black Lab "Field Dog." 42 lbs, supersonic fast, scary smart, loves our cat, they're inseparable, sleep together in their bed at night.

I understand it's a rule of nature and biology, but I surely wish we could have our best pals much longer than we are able to. Thanks to all of you that love and care for your pets so well, they deserve it.

How do I keep the cat and fish separate? Easy -  fish tank has a full cover with LED lighting. The cat don't bother them anyhow.

The memories hurt my heart.

"Buddy" LOVED fish. A few years back, I'd let him out in the a.m., and he'd run down to my parents house, on the river/lake, and sit sit on the breakwall and watch the fish swim by. After a couple weeks, there was a bass, that would stare back at him. After about a week, I caught the bass and put ihim in my garden pond.

Buddy and the bass would stare at each other, ALL day long. Winter came, so I put the "Bruce" in an aquarium, in the "war room"...they continued the stare down for months!

"Bruce" went back to the river...Buddy (aka Junior) went to "Rainbow Bridge".

We still have "Dug"...a very "simple", but lovable Golden Retriever...

"Dug" is a good boy, but nothing like Buddy was to me. I still can't bring myself to getting another dog....so we added a couple "kids" to the family...

"Pooch"...tan/white, pygmy goat, and "Kevin", black/white, myotonic/fainting goat.

There will never be a replacement for Buddy, but these little goats are pretty cool!

When you are wanting to just stretch out he sits on the floor , those big ears ( I don't believe in cropping ) up and rotating around like radars and that face just saying ( " You know you need me on your tummy don't you ? " ) until you give in ! Love that guy though .

GMorrison - to be honest, I'm the guilty one in talking my wife into getting a puppy. I've done enough research in finding the perfect family pet and knowing her, she wasn't keen on having a dog - let alone a big dog like a German Shepherd. We also have a  then 7 year old son as well at the time. I had researched both the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and the Miniature Australian Shepherd and we saw legitimate breeders for both breeds before deciding on the Cavalier.

Getting a new puppy was a family decision - we're all in this together and willing to take some responsibilities in caring for our new pet. We also own a 5 year old Blue point Ragdoll cat and a fish tank.

Very true TB, I figure if we could safely release the energy in a Jack Russell we could solve all of our energy problems! Our last JR was very bright but this one is a little, um, slow... Good dog though, the last one also had a bad case of 'small dog syndrome' and at times I've wondered if he was part Chupacabra as well.

Your Chihuahua/Min Pin sounds really cool.

   Gotta say that Jack Russell's aren't dogs , Didn't you know that ? They are built with all the left over meduim small dog parts and then all the spare energy left in dogdom was poured in that very , very conniving brain and smaller quicker body !

     Now those pictures of that very reserved and smart Shepherd are beautiful . Funny though , I have a brown and tan Chihuahua/Min Pin mix and he gives me looks like that and he acts like he stole some energy from the Jack Russell assembly facility !

      In all actuality between mine , yours and that beautiful expressive Shepherd , those are real companions they are ! T.B.

15 years of nervous barking and jumping around. Best dog ever.

Back in the 60's when I was a yoot, the Sheps had terrible hip problems. I see a lot of healthy ones now so I assume it's been bred out.

He is one gorgeous boy! I've always wanted a German Shepherd but the missus don't like big dogs. (We have a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel tri-color and he's my wingnut.)

Those are fantastic!  Good lookin' pooch, too.
