Movie picks for July 4th

It's a great mini-series, isn't it?  I was reading on IMDB how, as you continue to watch the series, you'll notice that Adams' teeth get grungier and grungier as the years pass.  I think that's the first time I've ever seen a period piece where the characters didn't have perfect Hollywood teeth.  Kudos to them for the detail!

Looks good !

Very good attention to details ranging from what I presume to be third rate Royal Navy warships in Boston Harbour to a dirty cobblestone street ( Mr. Adam's departure for Philadelphia ) to cloth weaves being increasingly finer and cleaner as status improves. 

Definitely a thumbs up !

I look forward to viewing the remaining chapters.

Definitely worth buying the series on Blu Ray.

And your post did get me thinking as to when hand shears/clippers were invented. I have no clue myself. Sheep have been shorn for centuries, so somebody perhaps cmae up with a smaller set for the human head after sheep shears were invented?

But of course who is to say is Mr Adams was not getting his head shaved by a barber with a straight razor on a regular basis so that would account for the even growth.

Good point about the barber; hadn't thought of that and it is a logical method so long as trims are frequent .

The HBO Series "John Adams" is tops..... 

Please forgive the "out of season" bump.....

Just picked up the HBO Series "John Adams"  on Blu Ray for $3 at the local Half Price Books.

Only 18 minutes into part one.

The pop-up Historical Guide is a very nice feature for those who do not recognize Latin or have no background in US history. 

I realize I may be quibbling, but one item keeps nagging at me every time I look at actor Paul Giamatti:

I know of no technology available in 1770 to achieve such an evenly close cropped hair cut on actor Paul Giamatti. Anyone have any deeper knowlege of the subject of personal care in that era? 

Otherwise, the series looks very good!

I've been so busy, I'd forgotten there were new movies in the theaters.

Guess I'll stick to whatever I have on hand.

Maybe I'll pull out the old copy of that 1972 movie "1776"...or maybe "April Morning"............if I can find either one.............

The HBO Series "John Adams" is tops. "The Patriot" is watchable enough.

Gotta watch Gettysburg around 4th of July.

Oh wait a minute,my bad,can't show that anymore,it shows the Confederate Flag thruout,might be offensive.

Seriously,one of my favorites.Along with the book Killer Angels.

this time of year I tend to think along the lines of "Platoon","the boys in company c","full metal jacket"....kind of Vietnamy....but good bloody fiction.
