Okay what's all the fuss about ?There were many models of Dodge Chargers made . From 1966 and the intervening years and many stunk in their own right .M.P.C. never seemed to be able to get it just right .
Monogram got it right but in 1/24 . A.M.T got it right , But , you had to be careful .They did the regular topped version and the second smooth back top from Nascar !
Now as far as markings on the cars .If they were Nascar versions they could no longer have beer sponsors on them .They still sold .The only time I saw a model removed from the marketplace was the Unlimited Hydroplanes like " Miss Budweiser " Because of the markings . It was a very small segment of what they marketed . So rather than re-decal it or spend the money to do so , they just stopped making the model . Denying a whole group of modelers a plastic version of their favorite racing boats !
The Charger in Pro - modeler form is a ubiquitous , Vinyl topped version you would see on the street . I have seen a few General Lees too ! The 66 Charger was originally a smooth topped version from A.M.T. The M.P.C. version was the loaded Charger with the vinyl top on it , too !
Plain and simple the Charger was a dodge .Weather based on the Coronet or what . I never saw models of Dodges I wanted so who really cares ?As to the Flag Flap I will let those better equipped to handle it do so . I just want them to leave my models alone ! I still want the unlimited hydros back in anyone's markings and the John Player special formula one car as well .Most folks in America didn't even know what John Player was for gosh sakes ! That black car with those fine gold stripes was absolutely awesome to look at .
I guess that means the Starsky and Hutch Torino will go next huh ? Oh well , I can't help fix it so at my age I will just build what I have and sit by and listen , comment a little here and there . Then when the day comes , you can pry that cold piece of metal from my hands . ( my Zippo ? Perhaps )
Afterthought . When I say Charger I automatically mind - zoom to the first Charger I ever owned a Top Rung ( yeah , vinyl top and all ) 67 Charger . Now that one was one sexy beast !
