Proud of my son
Posted by GreenThumb on Friday, November 13, 2015 7:28 PM

My SSgt son graduated his 6th class from MCRD Parris Island today.

He has one more cycle and he will be finished with his three year Drill Instructor duty.

He is the Senior Drill Instructor this next cycle as well. Semper Fi son!

Good for him! I can still to this day hear my Senior Drill Instructor's voice and see his face in my mind some 32 years later. As a matter of fact, this past Monday was the day that I arrived at Benning...

Pendleton is about an hour south of me. If you're in the neighborhood, let me know and we can meet for lunch and a beer.

Hey Stik, you Army guys don't have Drill Instructors, you have Drill Sergeants. DI's are in the Marine Corps. Like the ones I had in Parris Island. Ooohrahhh!

At ease leg... I fairly well recall the Senior Drill for my Company at Benning calling himself and and being referred to by the others as the Senior DI... Mind you it's been over 30 years now and I hit my head pretty good upon landing and on other service mishaps but...

No small thing Mike. Being proud of your children.

Means a lot, we've got an "only" too and she's a team player with us.

Congratulations to your son, green thumb!

22 February 1984 was the day I showed up at Parris Island, a day that, to me, will live in infamy! Hard to beleive it's been almost 32 years for me since that date.

What's your son's MOS?
