Yeah that might be something I could check out as well.

PS: Strange thing.  For some reason I stopped getting emails when someone posts to this thread. It shows that I am subscribed to it.  Another glitch I guess.

I'll need to check it out provided homework from my night classes doesn't require staying glued to the computer rather than getting outside.

Thankfully, the meeting time permits driving there after the worst of the Chicago winter Rush Hour has cleared. Big Smile

Did someone mention Butch O'Hare?...

I'm a member and there's another member that frequents these haunts as well. I'll let him call himself out.

Butch O'Hare is an awesome group. There's a wide range of experience in the room. Good people.

I think the next annual show is sheduled for November 11.

If you're in the area drop in for the monthly meeting. You can find our location here: http://www.butchoharemodelers.com/directions.html

Our group (7) usually meets around 6:30 (when we can all get together) and we take turns with whose house.  We also take turns bringing the food. Hoagies/ Pizzas/wings, fruit, cakes/pies, sodas are the usual foods of choice, all pre-arranged beforehand.  After eating, we usualy have a show and tell of what we're working on for the next show and talk about who's going and who's driving.  Sometimes we spend a lot of time listening to the war stories of an honorary member who is 93 years old and was a P-47 pilot in WWII.  We take turns calling him and arranging to pick him up.  We also take turns taking him and his wife out to dinner once in a while. He used to build models when he was younger and still has them.  I really hope that I'm in the same shape as he is IF I get to be that age.

I just finished building a 1/48 P-47 for him with all the markings of his plane.  I gave it to him last month.  One of the other members built a 1/48 EF111 for his son who flew them.  Joe wants me to take the P-47 to MosquitoCon.  I wasn't going to but that's what he wants so I'll be there with the P-47 and a few other builds.

I'm game... bring your own weapons.

But make sure ya register your droids with the Empire.Wink

These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Regarding meals and club meets, our IPMS folks usually have an after meeting meal at a local Dennys. And our AMPS guys are strictly hardcore- no food, just a gathering before and after the meeting at a LHS.  Oh the humanity!

my IPMS club in Denver, Rob Wolf, has breakfast every Saturday right next to the LHS. usually have at least 10 folks, sometimes more unless there is a contest somewhere.

my wood shiip club, Rocky Mountain Shipwrights, does a workshop once a month where folks show up and build.

in both cases these infromal meetings tend to be better than the formal ones.

BTW, I'd have been at that Butch O'Hare show in a heartbeat had I known about it. Was that an IMPS regional thing?

Bet Steve would have come down to that, too.

How 'bout the Moss Eisley Cantina? I hear they have a great band !

What wormhole is that for my GPS ?

I never bother with that.

Plenty of Corellian freighters headed that way.

I think this forum is the most civil of the modeling sites I visit. There are other ones that have uber experts aplenty, but I find this place the best balance between the experts and beginners.

It would be nice to get to meet other members face to face, but we are all over the globe.  That is too bad, but at the same time that is what makes internet forums so amazing, as we can talk to people who have firsthand knowlege anywhere in the world.  Well, maybe not from North Korea.

I am in the middle of a huge ocean, so that limits my ability to have lunch or dinner with members.  But as others have mentioned, contests would be an ideal venue for an FSM meet and greet.  The IPMS USA National Convention would be good for those who live in the US.  And FSM is also there!

................ I'm planning on joining my local IPMS, to meet some local modelers in my area. Hoping at least a couple of them are members here on FSM.

That would seem to be the most practical for regular socializing, IMHO.

For the last couple months, I've been meaning to attend one of the meetings that are held on the first Sunday of the month. But, I don't think about it until the second Sunday of the month! LOL! I will attend in January...
