... and I think my spaceship knows which way to go...

More than a musician, a writer, or an actor. Never to be defined by what he did, and always able to come up with something new. A man of many talents has passed on. We were all blessed to have him with us for the decades that we did, for entertainment of music and screen, inspiration in life, or the provacateur of deeper thoughts.

One of the few musical artists that always remained original against pop influences.

Ok so....I'm watching all these tributes to David Bowie, and I don't mean to opportunistically jumping on some guy's death to claim some "three degrees removed from Kevin Bacon" relevance to the whole deal, but I have been reflecting on his life and influence, and I remember the first time I saw him as Ziggy Stardust, the gender-bending redhead that he made famous. It was in that era when I was still getting beat up by kids just for being quiet and shy, and for having red hair, I.e., "different". Which, ironically, was exactly how I felt about myself vs the "popular" kids whose only achievement was a dubious homogeneity with regard to the clothes they wore and their embrace of either sports or academia. And Iheard him sing "Ziggy played guitar..." and I remember going...."Hmmm..?" I actually still have a portrait that I did when I was maybe 13 where I drew myself with this weird, androgynous hairdo and makeup. Years later, when I was in a few of my 80s cover "glam" bands with my crazy hair and wearing girl's clothing, I realize now that I was perhaps channeling Ziggy Stardust in my own subconscious way...yeah,I was different, yeah, I was not as macho as other guys, skinny and lanky as a chopstick, and yeah, I had red hair. So the ef what---Ziggy was all of those things too--and he played guitar. Big Smile

Thanks, David, and Ziggy, for being in my head when I needed ya. Yes

Quite shocked and saddened to learn of the death of David Bowie. Fan or otherwise, I think we all have hummed a song or two of his.
