7 dollars for cauliflower ?

Well,I was under the impression that food prices would come down when oil prices came down,along with air fare,shipping costs,cab fare,even plastic for models.I can't wait !!! 

 

That's what I was told a while back. The price of gas goes up then food and everything else goes up too cause of the additional $ it cost to transport. But then, the gas in my area ia $1.77 a gallon but nothing else has come down. I remember buying two HUGE skirt steaks at Costco for around $20 or so but now, last time I checked it was $38 for the same tray.

I have learned not to get too confortable with the gas prices cause they go up and down like a yo yo. I remember the gas strike of 1978 here in Florida when truckers went on strike and we had gas staions open a certain day of the week servicing odd or even numbered tags depending on the day yet we never saw a gas price increase. So I have learned to smile (for now) with the lower gas prices when I fill up my V-8 2004 Tundra.

Just came back from a trip to the local "Giant".  Cauliflower was $3.99 a head.  It's been running $4.99.  Then got a big surprise as I passed the "Wawa".  Gas has been running $2.11 for the last couple of weeks.  It is now $1.99.  No wonder people are going out and buying large SUV's again.  Then the gas will go up again and they'll park them and get a Prius for the 53 to 58 mpg for the 2016's.

I hate buying fresh produce in winter and spring in grocery stores. Nothing is fresher than buying fresh fruits and veggies from a local produce stand. If I had room for a greenhouse to do hydroponics, I'd do it. I've heard so many good things about hydroponics.

Meat has gone up in the last couple years. 

 

Even for me...hunting for my meat (enter unfortunate endowment joke here!). Two years ago, a deer tag was $15. As of last year, you had to buy a "base license", $11...then you could buy deer tags at $20. So, your first tag more than doubled in price, after that, they're up 25%. Still a lot cheaper than buying beef...if you do your own processing/butching (as I do)...and better for you. 

The state increaced the cost to add more Conservation Officers to combat poaching, as there had only been one officer per county (no where near enough). License revenue dropped, poaching convictions rose emensely. HMMMMMMM....sounds like a genius money making plot to me!!!

Anyway, steering away from the politics of it...I don't mind the higher price, if the funds are appropriated correctly...to the DNR, for use in wildlife conservation, and getting wildlife criminals out of the woods.

Exactly that, vegetables and fruits imports to Canada have gone up because of our drop in Canadian $.    Dairy products have been stable, and some items have even dropped in price. 

So upside is, eat more icecream and less veggies.

Meat has gone up in the last couple years. 

A $20 tag will get me anywhere from 30 to 50+ pounds of good, lean protien!

Vege's are affordable...unless you're on the whole "organic" bandwagon.

The Canadian dollar has lost a huge amount versus the US dollar (almost 50%) partially thanks to the collapse in oil prices, a significant Canadian export. If your food is coming in from other nations the cost will therefore be sharply higher.

Fruits and vegetables are priced by the pound here in the states, not per item.
