I find that in IE if you use copy / paste it will not link your whole Photobucket library. Only post image that you paste.

Ye, the link is fine, just takes some getting used to. Are you getting the link by selecting share on the image.

I uploaded a test image. After you upload it to Photobucket, copy the "IMG" link, and use "control V" to post it directly to you post.
Like most sites, you will need a photo hosting site, such as Photobucket or similar. Once you have done that and have loaded your pics there, you use the Insert/edit image button which you find by useing the Reply button rather than Quick reply.
