First it was Blackjack Mulligan and Balls Mahoney. Yesterday it was Syracuse basketball legend, Dwayne "Pearl" Washington. This morning it was Chyna and now Prince. Central NY is crying Orange tears.

Seemed like in the 1980's, he and MJ were the "Pepsi Vs Coke" of the pop music scene. I'll be giving the "1999" album a spin on the turntable tonight. Incredibly talented. Eric Clapton was once asked "what's it like to be the greatest guitarist in the world ?" Clapton replied, "I dont know, go and ask Prince." Seems like the brightest flame burns out quickly. RIP.

Ugh, man, I am SO SAD about the death of Prince!! CryingSad Growing up in the 80s, his music was part of the soundtrack of my youth, and "Purple Rain" made such a HUGE impression on me as a young and developing musician. I TOTALLY related to his character in it---brooding, awkward, cocky...the movie really made an impression. I used to think that I was probably the only rock guitarist driving to and from the gigs, singing "Let's Pretend We're Married" in a high falsetto, lol.

Years later, in another local band, we used to play "Let's Go Crazy". I actually sang it. I can remember that every time I would step up to the mic and say "Dearly Beloved......we are gathered here together to get through this thing called...life", the dance floor would fill right up, before the drums even came in. I felt like I was purple for 4 1/2 minutes..we used to KILL that song, guitar solo at the end and all.

Sigh....please, 2016.....take no more!

Cause of death was drug overdose. No surprise. You'd think at age 57 you would clean up your act and act your age. Enjoy life. The music world has lost another one because of drugs. Sad...

No, that's incorrect. At the time you posted your comment, the autopsy hadn't even been started yet. He was never known as a person who used drugs. He actually required a "No Drug Use" contract for all employees who worked for him. Not his thing AT ALL.

I predict it will be either flu-related or a congenital defect in his heart, perhaps even an aneurysm.

Wait, the autopsy is scheduled for today. No way to determine a cause so fast. Also remember that a drug overdose does not mean illegal drugs.  Prince was rumored to be ill and on medication. Also remember Heath Ledger he died of an overdose because he didn't tell the doctor in New York what medication he had been perscribed by the doctor in London. He ended up taking two medications that were not supposed to be taken together. Michael Jackson also died of an overdose but it was because his quack doctor gave him to much seditive in a shot. Also I'm aware of a person who died because he had to medications and he got the instructions of the two medications mixed up and gave himself a heart attack.

Chasing the ultimate build.

That info came from TMZ, an online gossip-rag, like the National Enquirer. Pure speculation. I would guess that he had some sort of medical condition, which presaged this 2nd, and unfortunately, fatal attack. We won't know for weeks though---they're going to do a million tests and look at his medical history, etc. Like they did with Whitney Houston. It was several weeks before they had a definitive cause of death, if my memory is correct?

Everybody knew the cause of Whitney Houston's death right away. She was a hot mess later in her (of what's left of it) career. She even admitted she did crack then. Remember her infamous "Crack is whack" interview?

Likewise. But some of his music did grow on me over time, and I came to appreciate it. Like many here have already said, it was part of the soundtrack of that time of my life. I suppose that's one reason that it has grown on me, along with other music I was not too keen on back then.
