No, Microsoft doesn't suck.

My business runs on it. It supports Revt and CAD just fine.

my wife runs 10 on her Sony laptop with a touch screen.

Well, Sir I use XP (for now) and I have no plans to upgrade from it. It's like this - windows SUCKS!!! It has ever since they decided to go to Vista which I have on my desktop. When Windows 7 came out it sucked too! Everyone hated it more than Vista, and now that 8, 8.1 and now 10 have come out they aren't any better than the others! Everyone I know (including my mother) has had them and wished that they never bought it, or a computer with them on it! I say stay away from upgrading when you can and don't upgrade if it's not necessary. The reason why they keep sending you updates is because Microsuck doesn't work out any bugs before they release their software. I only wish that someone somewhere would come up with something better since Bill Gates has pretty much cornered the market with his designs!

59, your tip indeed brought me to the current personal Word files that I have since created after re-installing Windows 10. But the ones that were there before the removal and addition of Windows 10 are not there. Admittedly, 59, this one is a little difficult. It might require administrative-level access to the computer, I am not sure. But my offer of any of my dioramas still stands, to yourself or anyone who can help recover those personal Word files (if they are still there). My word is good.

Well honestly my comment was not directed at you but since you feel like it applied I will add to my previous comments. You have some valid points there and I will gladly cut anyone some slack that is willing to make an effort to learn, I do it every day. I go out of my way on a daily basis to help less saavy computer users learn the tips and tricks of the trade when it comes to technology.

The fact of the matter remains however, that more effort went into typing several posts here ranting about how bad a Windows operating system is , even though several of the problems were totally unrelated to Windows, when less effort would have easily provided an answer via a simple internet search.

I completely understand getting frustrated with computers, software, servers, etc. as I too get frustrated with them sometimes. I can also promise you that the knowledge that I have gained in the IT field was learned via many hours of studying and researching and was not something that I was just 'gifted'.

Your are correct that knowledge is not always common but most of the time it is easily available to anyone with access to the internet and the will to learn.

59, not only do I not know how to change browser settings, but not too long ago, I did not even know what a browser was. Knowledge is not always common, and might be less evident to those like yourself, who are gifted in certain areas like computers. And in terms of "wailing," some express themselves more openly, while others like myself, are more reserved, but our exasperation with computers is the same. If anything, wail on me, the most ignorant of computer users. For the others, why don't you cut them some slack?

Not too long ago, my PC went into an automatic upgrade to Windows 10. I asked a tech guy at my workplace if Microsoft has the right to do so. Sadly yes, Read the fine print. My take on Windows 10? I absolutely hate it!! It's worse than Windows 8. At first I thought I lost all my favorites files, then I managed to import them. There is no Home button anywhere. I can't even figure out how to set MSN as my homepage.

I just don't care for the overall look of Windows 10. Windows 10 SUCKS!

I'm sorry BlackSheep but blaming your inablity to change certain browser settings on the operating system tells me all I need to know. I suggest you learn how to utilize lord Google and learn more about what you are trying to do or alternatively you can continue to post here wailing about it.

Mr Mike

I downloaded Windows 10 almost a year ago and when the download reached 43%, it stopped...for hours!  I restarted my computer and the download continued.  Then my computer became an expensive paperweight when I logged on and my wallpaper blinked at me.  Either Windows 10 was not compatible or I was stuck between Windows 7 and 10.  Microsoft was no help to me so I took my computer back to where I bought it and they reinstalled Windows 7 after backing up my files for me.

My work computer automatically installed Windows 10 and I lost several functions needed for work and I am still trying to figure out where everything is.  IMHO, Windows 10 is a fail!

Not just a fail, an EPIC fail at best.

And people wonder why there wasn't a Windows 9.....

aWintersTale, use the yellowish windows explorer folder on the task bar to look for "documents" folder on left side of screen as that is where ms office stores your word & other office saved files.

Can't you go the the internet options tab in IE and change the home page?

Yeah, the curved "e" is at the bottom. I still can't figure out how to set my start page to MSN every time I open the IE. It doesn't even do it when you open a new tab either. I hate the generic start page. Too blah....

Internet Explorer is still there, you just have to find it. I have always used FireFox and this seems (I only use it for limited things. Have not really worked it out) to work OK.

Upgraded to take advantage of Microsoft's saccarin brain trust. No regrets, but one big problemo. Had to uninstall and reinstall it because of an escalating slow-down issue (which in itself is alarming, come to think of it). This resulted in all the Word files being lost, like my mom's list of Bible study members, her prescription pill list for her doctor, and my famous phyllo-dough, spinach pie recipe (I kid you not).

What makes it worse, is that I am horrible, absolutely horrible when it comes to computers. Probably the Word files are somewhere recoverable, I just don't know where. To the one who points me in the direction where I can recover those, I will send you free, one of my dioramas - any one you choose, including this one that I have not shared on the Armor forum before, my M5A1.

Sheep

I see little difference between the 7 and 10 IMO.  I have no issues and all my files are present. The pictures have a slight difference in uploading but no biggie. I have a small house on the top right of the screen which is the home page icon.

In all, not bad at all for now.

Well, except for the new format for downloading and storing pictures, it's going pretty smooth for now. I finally learned the new picture downloading and storage method so all is good, just a couple of more tabs to deal with.Geeked

My wife downloaded Win 10 a few weeks ago. As I sit here writing this, she is saying "What the H*** is this thing doing now"? I have been hearing this a couple of times a night since she downloaded 10. I think I'll keep what I have (7). The only real problem I have is with PB and that's been ongoing for the last 2 years.

No, I had the manual free version. I suppose one can do the same thing the cleaner does by going to settings/control panel/internet options and deleting the history, cookies and files, along with any other junk.

I had Ccleaner in my W7 and it did a great job at removing junk files from my PC but I noticed that after updating to W10 the Ccleaner program was removed in the process. I read a couple of online reviews stating to avoid loading Ccleaner on W10 cause it caused problems with the system and certain files. Has any of you guys had this experience with the Ccleaner?

Well, I finally was able to download W10 to my PC and things look to be normal except for some new icons and learning my way around the new system and the setup and location of certain things. Might as well take advantage of the free download.

I don't blame you. Might as well until Windows 11 comes out instead. Whenever that will be...

Apparently a Microsoft exec or someon with the Windows project said that Win10 will be the last version of Windows. I don't know how true this is but I'm also airing on the side of a new OS sometime in the future. But in the meantime, as a sucker for punishment, I'm going to take advantage of a free upgrade I signed up for and upgrade from 8.1 (which I really like; 8.1 and 7 are my favorites) to 10. After I upgrade my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. And get my 8.1 OS and drivers fully updated.

The last version? Yeah right. LOL! They're probably already in the works working on the next version of Windows OS as we speak. LOL!

Well, read somewhere that from here on out MS wants to simply update Win10 with each new version. Aka you go from:

Win4.1

Win95

Win98

WinME

Win7

Win8

Win10

to:

Win10.0

Win10.1

Win10.2

Win10.3

etc

etc

etc...
