Pegasus Bridge Recollections

With the 72nd Anniversary of D-Day fast approaching, I just stumbled across this great tidbit from the late actor Richard Todd. In the film "The Longest Day", he portrayed Major Howard, who led the Glider Assault that opened the British portion of Operation Overlord. In real life, he was a Lieutenant in 7th Parachute Battalion, who would help reinforce the Glider Troops at that bridge until the Seaborne troops arrived to relieve them. Here are his words.

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Great story, Stik.  Reminds me, I need to check on the progress of that movie about the assault.

Good story. Sort of in the same vein, Colin Maud, the British Beachmaster in the film with the dog and stick, was played by Kenneth More, who was an officer in the RN in that conflict. Maud lent More his shillelagh to use in the movie, on which he was a tecnical advisor.

Need to find four hours here soon.
