Very Gentle , But fiery, man . T.B.
Yo !
Brett and Wayde are a hoot aren't they ? Agnes is Hot and you can bet her hubby knows it too . Again , met them at a home show . Funny how some seem aloof and distant .
They seemed like real folks especially when I told them about my 26'x14' aquarium I built into my original house years ago .
Now having met many "celebs" over the years Iam struck , when you find a common denominator how regular they are .
My V.A. Appts are at the Audie Murphy Hospital in San Antonio . I met this man many years ago when he was visiting with others where I worked .
I have never been " starstruck " by their presence . I ran into Ernie Borgnine in the supermarket . Very regular fellow with a wicked sense of humor .
Now when I met My real Childhood Hero you could've knocked me over with a feather . he was nice and ordinary , Just had a famous name . I think it was " Chuck Yeager " ! Yeah come to think of it , it was .

Now, I did meet actually meet, a guy who went to middle school with Anne Frank.
My daughter was in a High School production, Mrs. Van Daan.
After opening night this guy came to speak about the story and his own experiences as a Dutch child at that time. He decribed her as quite effervescent and a good athlete, in particular volleyball.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
I met Lt Col Bernie Fisher in 1976 when he stopped at my house asking if he could come get the bees out of a tree that we had.

Oh yeah, I forgot about seeing Jim Lovell as a Scout after Apollo 13... And I did see Check Yeager right up front at Edwards in 1997 when he did a 50th anniversary Sound Barrier flight.

I "witnessed" a lot of famous people in the same way:
Governor George Wallace
Pappy Boynington
Les Paul and Mary Ford
Governor Lestor Maddox
Robert F. Kennedy
Jackie Cooper
Jimmy Durante
Danny Thomas
Anita Bryant
Etc- But i can't claim to "know" them.
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
I've had the distinct honor to speak to 2 of the Tuskeegee Airmen. The first one came to our local library and was one of the bomber crewmen in training but never allowed to fight. The second was one of the fighter pilots who actually served time as a POW. That was at Osh Kosh a few years ago. Brushes with history.
John
True enough.
I've come across a few people in my time that some may have heard of. Gen McInerny who you see form time to time on FOX, the crew of the Enola Gay, one of the pilots who helped shoot down Yamato, Joe Kittenger, a couple mig killers, a couple others.
My Father who was in the Air Corps worked under Patton for a time.
I had an invite to meet Saburo Sakai, traffic killed that one.
OzmacHold on a moment, attending a rally where the Nazi madman raved at the people is not "meeting" him.
How much closer could someone still alive in this day and age get to meeting the man?? We know what he meant...
True, "witnessing" would have been a better choice of words
GMorrison Well, even not "meeting", still a close brush with history.

A better word would be "witnessing".....
Likewise... Seeing is not the same as meeting and knowing someone up close.
Now, I've met numerous Baseball HOfers and gotten autographs. Bobby Thompson, Yogi, Neikro, Pete Rose, Ferguson Jenkins, to name a few.
I've also met Brett and Wayde (or is it Wayne?) from the TV show Tanked at a Home Show a couple years ago. Although, I would have love to meet Agnes though. She's hot! LOL!
True, seeing a historical personage yourself is quite different from "knowing" them... I have had family members who saw folks such as Ike, Patton, and MacArthur during their wartime service... I have seen Presidents at speeches in person, or crossed paths here and there or met some famous celebreties, but only "known" one such person. And that man it was truly an honor to know.
One thing about working in a hospital is that I get to meet lots of older folks. I met an infantry machinegunner from ww2, a bomber airplane gunner, a navy guy who served in Pacific and another from an escort carrier in North Atlantic...
This getlman was 8 yrs old when he attended a Hitler's speach in Berlin 1944. Being that young he didn't remember too much but he told me how mesmerized the crowd was. Being a history entusiast, it was a strange feeling that I find a bit hard to express. I read a lot about WW2 and Hitler, but here is a man who actually saw him.
