No worries!
Worse yet is Franklin's autobiography. You'll love it if you don't mind sentences that can go for a full paragraph. There was someone who needed to learn what a period was for, even a comma would have helped.
Rob, if you want dry, try S.L.A Marshall - The first time I read Men Against Fire, I didn't think I would get through it!
.
There are a number of books on the subject.

William Manchester wrote both an essay on the history and a personal recollection. The latter is quite emotional.
His MOS was 0311-Rifleman

To get to the roots of it, Okinawa was and is a wholly separate culture from the Japanese home islands, yet was the bloodiest battlefield on land in the fight to end the war.
Manchester also wrote "American Caesar" which is a good read. Includes in detail that campaign.
Clint, where are you?
I was also 1AO for religious reasons, but the draft was not active in 1972.
Doss is a great story.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
SprueOne Anyway I live in a bubble because I didn't even know that the Army was in Okinawa during WWII.

Yes, the Army actually provided the majority of forces used on the ground at Okinawa. The Marines have a tendency to overlook that part of the campaign.

I've been trying to locate exactly where Hacksaw Ridge was located on Okinawa but no luck so far.
RauldukeNot familiar with hacksaw ridge, can someone fill me in? Mike
The short of it is that Doss was a conscientious objector who served as a corpsman and won the MOH evacuating wounded men off a ridgeline during a withdrawal.
Didn't know anything about it until this thread. I looked it up and it sounds like an interesting subject. One of the Band of Brothers episodes was about an Army Medic. And were the Wind Talkers in Wind Talkers armed?

Hacksaw Ridge is the war story of Desmond Doss.

Also a good actor in "The Year of Living Dangerously", "Mad Max", "Lethal Weapon" etc.
But director; whatever you think of "Braveheart" and his acting in it, a historic disaster from beginning to end.
"Passion of the Christ"; IMHO a better book than the movie.
I think he's a MUCH better actor than a director, so I don't hold out any hope.
Where's Clint when we need him?
Saw that Mel Gibson is making another war movie. It's the story of Desmond Doss during the fight for Okinawa. Anyone have any thoughts so far on it?
