So i have diabetes, short term and some mid to long term memory loss. Neropthy in feet and hands along with some shakes. Lol i don't mean to sound like i am falling apart i am far from it! Lol. My health issues is a part of my model building as much as my two hands. I am trying to find a happy medium, where i can enjoy my hobby and keep health issues, well they will do what they want lol. For you builders how do you manage your health and model building?. Now i know there is no secret way!, i mean still finding satisfaction with your quality of work when your health interferes with it.
So sorry to hear your difficulties Billmc. I hope that this becomes more manageable for you soon and that you can recover the satisfaction you have had before not only in the hobby but in the wider scheme. You will be in my prayers.
Sympathies & keep on moggling, after all it's only a hobby...
I have left shoulder elbow & wrist issues I'm investigating, bad enough to stop me swimming, & this week I've been told my blurred vision is cataracts!
What I've done over the years is get a good comfy office chair, 2 spots, 2 daylight & 2 halogen lights, & only model when I'm comfortable.If tired, blurred vision etc, I tidy, read, watch the history channel, or do something else, main thing is not to over do it, as mistakes can escalate!
Oh, & don't sniff the resin dust, solvents, glue or paint!

Don't feed the CM!
Billmc, sorry to hear about your problems, but I can relate. Over the past 8 years I've had a myriad of health problems. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, spinal stenosis, bad hips, rotator cuff tears, etc. I also had Type 2 diabetes, but it went away after I lost over 100 lbs. Unfortunately though, it wasn't before it caused neuropathy in my feet and hands. The feet are the worst because the numbness causes balance problems, but I'm managing. When it comes to my modeling, the numbness in my fingertips causes me to drop a lot of small parts so I've learned to make sure when handling them that my hands are over top the table. That way I don't drop it on the floor and have to crawl around on the knee I just had replaced last month!
But hey, getting old and/or dealing with medical problems is part of life. I used to sit around and feel sorry for myself, trying to drink and drug the problems away. Now I accept my problems, deal with them the best I can and try to get the most out of life.
Good luck to you Billmc. You seem to have a great attitude and that's a prerequisite for getting through any problem.

Jon_a_its Oh, & don't sniff the resin dust, solvents, glue or paint!
Oh sure take fun away fun in sniffing paint and tube glue! Just kidding. Definitely don't inhale when working with resins.
My problem are my eyes. They aren't young anymore.
Hi billmc;
Hey I feel ya guy ! At 73 I have those problems and I have had to compensate .Now that said a successfully completed model is as much an emotional high as it is real .
When you are emotionally proud and fulfilled , your body responds positively .So , do what I do , Go for the high , Man , go for the High ! T.B.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Dare I ask how you acquired them?
Bill, I know where your coming from. At 75, I've had my share of problems but, as Templar said above "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome". I can see that you are doing that. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the hobby.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Thanks guys, ya i have had diabetes since 98, my hart issues i have had for the last 10 years. The Neropthy is the killer!, my feet prevents me to do a lot getting around. My hands, with the pain, the shakes thats the biggest opsticale. It does not deter me, its actually a god send because it takes the thought of the pain and puts it on the back shelf!. Part of writing this was to see how you deal with your quality, in relation to your clubs( if you belong, like ipms) or into competitions, and or just work in related to your peers.
There aren't any clubs near me, nor are there any shows. None of my friends or family are into the hobby so I'm pretty much on my own. But like TB said, or what I took from it anyway, build for yourself and relish the moment. So as far as I'm concerned, even given what I deal with, my build quality hasn't suffered. If anything it's improved because of what I read here and on other modeling sites. It takes me longer to do things and I have extra lighting, magnifiers and glasses, but I'm still enjoying it and that's what counts.
Even though I only build for myself, quality is still important. It might take me four or five times before I can get a small part into place so if I get frustrated I walk away. Sometimes I'll just surf the net for a few minutes or just pack it in for the day. But when I come back I'm fresh and many times I'll get it the first time. I have several pairs of reading glasses that I use and a dozen different types of pliers and tweezers. But I get by and I'm still having fun.
And regarding the neuropathy, have you tried taking Lyrica? That stuff was like a miracle drug for me. It couldn't fix the numbness but it stopped 90% of the pain.
Hey , Billmc;
I do believe you have found yourself in a bunch of like dented bodies .I do have a Pacemaker/Defibrillator , Man made hip and shoulder .Neuropathy ( but not from Diabetes ) from a spinal nerve injury that had me wheeling around till I got peeved and said to self "Self , Enuff ! "
Now I walk , Like a sailor , but I git er done . Fingers are being messed with by uncle Arthur and so on .But you know what ,I still do the fine work .Although it takes me twice as long . Ima still gonna do it !
You have the right tude man .Keep on Keepin on ! Oh , On the Lyrica .It's the bees knees for sure T.B.
