Hey Rob, I just now changed to Imageshack and posted a new series of images from the Gang on the thread "Aircaft Photography". When you open the image there is an amazing difference in that the photos are sharp. A second click and you can magnify it even further.

$18.99/ 1st year, looks to be well worth it. I'm impressed so far!

Check it out!

I think I have tried using Google but was unable to get it to perform similar to other hosting solutions that we use here.

Would the Google photos backup they're advertising be any good?

Jester

Good observations in your post. I never opened the pop ups but still managed to get crap into my system.

There are several ways thats Photobucket allows the distribution of crapware via their site. I assume in an effort to make some type of money with all the free accounts, they allow what seems to be just about anyone willing to pay them to advertise whatever they want. To the saavy web browsing individual who knows better than to click on the ads, its not a huge problem other than being a nuisance and using up unneccesarry system resources. To the less saavy person, who believes that the popup they just had is legit and that they really need to update their system, its a problem.

  1. Looking at single image on my old PB account there were no less than 3 different ads for various things on that one page as well as a popup informing me of a system update which would no doubtedly take me somewhere and expose my system to some form of malware.
  2. When attempting to upload any images, there are at least 2-3 random adds moving and flashing on the page as well as the required annoying video that they try to make you watch.
  3. When linking images on a forum such as FSM, the link will not always open a window with just the image alone. Many times, randomly it seems, it will open the page to the PB album which then has a million ads which is very annoying. When I click on an image, I only want to see the image, not all the other junk.

Yes I understand that they offer a 'free' service and I definitely understand the costs involved in running this type of service however I don't believe that allowing the spread of adware and malware in an effort to recoup the costs is reasonable. I would much rather have them cut way back on the amount of storage space allowed a free acount and then have a tiered payment system beyond that.

That being said, I am not yet totally sold on ImageShack but its my image hosting home for the moment.

But again and as always, to each their own.

That's exactly what's killing my PB experience. You can see in the lower left corner the amount of transactions and searching/loading and re-loading of adware. It destroys the band width and brings the ap to a total standstill. I've been using PB for years without issue, but, just in this last bit has it failed me to this extent

I don't understand the issues with PB. I've been using it for years and haven't had any issues. How can you tell that PB loaded your PC with malware or adware?

I've been willing to spend the $9.99 a year not to have to deal with the ads.

It's not hard to use and it does what I ask of it. I don't use it for editing or any of that, I have software on my computer for that.

The ads are the problem.  Some people, including someone at PB, have learned how to override the popup restrictions on major browsers.  When this happens and there are a lot of popups to load, it takes forever, and PB will not upload your new pics until all the ads are downloaded.  I have had it basically lock up the browser for ten or fifteen minutes at a time, and I just give up trying to load pics when this happens.

PB has gone out at least three times with major issues. One time their system crashed and took almost a week to get it back on line according to the support person I contacted.

Speaking of support, you have to really dig to email them and wait days to get a reply.

My pc had over 500 adware files that were not picked up by the three programs I use including the one from Microsoft. The computer repair place I have used in the past detected the adware that was causing my pc to run slow and had programs running in the background when everything else was closed. That is what alerted me to get my pc professionally checked. The tech suspected PB because they do introduce adware.

If you do a search on this site, you will see that I'm not the only one having issues with PB. I for one, will never use it again.

EDIT: Forgot to add that since switching hosting sites about 2 years ago, my PC was checked recently and had no issues so that is another red flag about PB.

PB loaded my pc with a bunch of crap. I switched to ImageShack and love using it. No more adware crap and pop ups. Easier and faster up and downloading pictures. It's worth every penny and it's not expensive.

I've given up on imageshack and moved over to PB. Never had problems but occasionally did have uploading issues. I've learned to deal with it since I got the free version.

I switched to ImageShack. Only drawback is that it's not free but I'd had enough of Photobucket's ad spamming crap so it's worth it to me.

I'm done with Photobucket!!!!

Can anyone recommend a good photo sharing site? PB is so frustrating I want to cease using it immediately!! Bang Head

It must perform like PB where you can link your photo to the Forum here.

Thanks!!
