Due to a hectic week, I could not post this earlier. But last weekend we had an air show in town!!!! For the first time in my life I had did not have to travel and the show came to us!!! Breitling sponsored and organized a show on the beach here. Unlike all the other shows where I have gone where it was mostly military, this one was mostly civilian aircraft with some warbirds, and a few current military, as well as the local Law Enforcement Aero unit. On Friday and Saturday, it was perfect sunny skies- ceiling and visibility unlimited. On Sunday when I was able to go it was lowering clouds and eventually light rain. But hey, where else can you hang out a beach front bar, having food and drinks and watch planes showing off?
Unless you're on a boat even closer to the action...
So a few photos to share
Like any airshow, the opening was somebody jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft to bring the colors to show center...
then there was this nifty little stunt biplane performing at the same time... he literally flew circles around the jumpers as the descended. As well as some stuff on his own
Then our PD's MD-500 flew a bit
followed by a long cabin UH-1
and then a grand old lady... a restored C-47
followed by a another stunt aircraft-
and what air show is complete without a T-6/SNJ?
followed by another custom aerobatic type...
then the Coasties made an appearance
then Breitling has a jet aerobatic team. I am not sure of this aircraft type... but their look and sound (and performance envelope) reminded me of the F9Fs in "The Bridges At Toko Ri"
then came another stunt biplane... red of course
then to my surprise Fed Ex did some low level passes... from show right...
But the surprises were not over... then came the most unusual aircraft of the show... a biplane with either a jet or a RATO pack beneath... I jest you not! He would light it off for his climbing maneuvers and literally climb like the proverbial "bat outta hell"
even the birds watched this guy!
then came the stuff I love... loud gray fast movers... the first time that I have seen a Super Hornet show off... very nice!!!!
and lastly came the big boys... the Thunderbirds!!!
I can't wait for next years show... supposedly they have a several year contract to put this on...
here is a link to my full album of all the photos I took...
