Posted by olddog on Sunday, November 6, 2016 6:26 PM

Is this the right place to ask about starting a modelers club ? Have though about this for some time. There are no clubs in this area,we have a small hobby shop and have local shows once a year.So why not a club? I don't have a clue on how to start, keep intrest going, and so on.Can anyone help me out,or just point me in the right direction ??     Thanks

I'd say to get with the owner of the shop and put up a flyer there. There have to be other customers there who would be interested, and it would likely generate business for the shop if he gets involved.

Ditto on what stik said. That's the easiest way to get one started.

I got our club started a few years ago by checking out the Readers Gallery in FSM for guys who live in my area and tracking them down. I got their phone number or address and gave them a call. We now have 7 members and meet monthly and go to all the shows that are within a 2 hr drive. You could also check out the IPMS site for a club near you. And last but not least, you could go to a show near you and check around for guys that live in your area. I found a guy at one of the shows that lived on the outskirts of my area and belonged to a club in Phila.  He now comes to our club meetings too in addition to his own.

Hope that this helps you. Good luck.
