Local Modeling Insight
Posted by SilenceDeuxgood on Monday, February 13, 2017 9:32 AM

Morning all,

I recently moved to Savannah Ga about a year a half ago, and to be honest, there isnt much in the way of hobby shops, modelling supply, or really, a following of the hobby. This post is more of an inquiry if anyone around the low country has any fingers on the pulse and could point me in the right direction.

Google...  I mean how hard is it to do? LOL!

No, I'm not trying to come off as being rude or sarcastic. :(

It looks like your closest IPMS chapter is in Augusta.  Hit them up and perhaps the good folks there have some local insight for you.

Google is my friend... Although did not have the answers. Was hoping someone more local would comment, as the research i did showed the closest IPMS Chapter in Augusta, and the closest "Hobby Shop" is jacksonville florida.

Try a Michaels or A.C.Moore store. They don't have a lot of stuff but depending on what you're looking for you might get lucky. Prices are good as any LHSs.

Hope that this helps a little.

While AMPS is an armor modeling club, they are modelers and will be able to point you in the right direction. Here is a link to their chapters in the area. Their annual show is this weekend so guys might be preoccupied and on the road or busy to answer right away.

The Atlanta Chapter has a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/752210394863746/ and a regular page http://www.ampsatlanta.org/ might be able to get valuable information from them.

You would think with Ft Stewart being there next to Savannah, that there would be ONE hobby shop in town. Or at least a toy store that carries models. I guess that times have changed...

There are big box stores round here: Hobby Lobby, Michaels, AC Moore, but their stock of modelling supplies is either dwindling, or never rotates so you never find anything new. Lackluster availability results to lack of any local groups. (Atlanta/Marietta/Agusta are all 4 hours away...)

Are there no Railroad or RC Hobby shops in the area? Those shops often carry the same supplies as for this hobby, and a small selection of models as well.
