Does anybody know why the MIG-31back seat have a flip up mirror.

It is a periscope, not a rear view mirror.  So the backseater can see what they are going to crash into?

I learned on a you tube documentory that the back seater has a pop up joy stick to fly the a/c looking through the mirror system.

I have the AMK kit mig-31b/bs.I have'nt built it yet but it looks like a very nice kit.just doing a lot of research.

I saw the kit over in Seattle last month, almost bought it but I was trying to be very frugal. I hadn't realized what a HUGE plane that critter is, man the Russians liked 'em big.
