I simply love the Corsair it represented in WW2 Pacific Theater of the war and the history it carried on to this day.

 

This is so blasted obvious, and since we both joined in 2013 it never occurred to me.

Like Toshi just said, this is sure a neat thread.

This has been really fun, so thanks to Toshi for kicking it off.  My avatar is just a picture of me and my wife's dog, Charlie.  (Charlie adopted Jennifer, and gets super excited when she comes home.  Me and the boy, meh).  My screen name is based on an old email address which was based on my name in the Society for Creative Anachronism, Johann Wolfhammer.

Doc Ward

I was a combat medic in a field artillery unit. Medics in combat arms units often end up being called "Doc" often followed by their last name, so, Doc Ward. I use it on other forums as well, and it is my "alias" for Cowboy Action Shooting. My avatar is what it is because the P-38 Lightning has been my favorite airplane, bar none, for as long as I can remember.

My last name is Bishop and so my knickname is Bish. Just about everyone calls me that, my other half even finds it odd when my mum users my first name. In the army everyone has a knickname and quite often we might know some one for years and not know their first name, so it become second nature.

User name is the abreviation of my name, damo and my other hobby, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and put it together damouav.

The image is of the 4 20mm cannons from one, if not the best fighter bombers of WW2, the De Haviland Mosquito.

Mine came from the fact that everytime my unit got put on alert i was always issued a M79 grenade launcher . The 40 MM (blooper) this was before the M203 . My avatar is me during NCO training , i wore a camo beret with the Eagle Globe an Anchor and a feather i found during one of our many land navigation classes . The instructors could care less but when our OIC came around i just plopped on my helmet so as not to get into any kinda poo poo with him . Fun times ! My name is just the initials of my first, middle and surname - first name is Christopher.

My Avatar is a photo i took at the 2007 Gold Coast Indy Race (back when the Gold Coast used to host an Indy).

It's a pic of an RAAF F-111G pulling up out of it's low fly over doing a dump'n'burn.

I love the photo because:

a. I took it; and

b. I figured it is a subtle hint to those in the know of where i'm likely from - the RAAF's were based at Amberley, near Brisbane Australia, and as far as i'm aware, i've only seen RAAF's F-111s do the dump'n'burn.  So thought most people who knew planes would realise I'm from Queensland, Australia just from a quick glance at the photo.

Yeah, Toshi. I just changed my avatar to a photo of a BT-13/15 in memory of my dad. Seventy-five years ago this month he earned his wings and commission in the USAAC.

For some reason, all the vids and pics i've ever seen online were of RAAF F-111's.  Maybe we just held onto them long enough for them to appear more frequently on internet searches.

US military and wasting fuel? Nah, never...

But the F-111 was phased out of service here in the mid 90’s or so, before all this digital photography went mainstream. Like the A-6 Intruder, it’s swan song for combat in our colors was in the 91 Gulf War. By the time of the Balkan Wars of the mid and late 90’s, they were phased out.

My name is Brynn Wryttur, but my real name is Lyndon Sandford. Brynn Wryttur is my pen name/ the name I use when I don't want someone to know my real name. It's also a Serbic name, which is where I descend from on one side of my family.

My avatar is the Hawker Typhoon, one of my favorite aircraft. My great uncle landed in Normandy 6 weeks after D-Day with the Canadian Army and was saved by a Typhoon sortie.

He was actually born in Ukraine and spent his time as a young boy as a shepherd and a lookout for Cossack raids. His family fled to Leipzig, Germany during WWI, where my grandmother was knocked out of a tree during an air raid and became deaf. He went to school under Joseph Himmler, Heinrich Himmler's father.

After the war, they emmigrated to Canada. My Great Uncle ended up returning to Leipzig during WWII. I believe it was under Soviet occupation.

A bit off topic, but maybe someone will find it interesting.
